Bikes have come and gone, but the XT has been a revelation. I wanted one when they came out and always fancied getting an XT as a second/third bike in the shed - but it wasn't until summer that (with nothing working in the garage) one came up for an asked £1800.

13K on the clock, it's been a hoot for six months. It's ideal for me, a person who hates people, as I get to go places where there's nothing but moos or baas. I get kicks from sub-legal speeds I never thought possible. Every garage should have one.

Very nice. I miss green-laning in my old Lada, looks even more fun on a bike!

Lada Niva? I had no idea there was a version with the wheel on the right hand side. Razz

I seem to remember being discouraged from buying one after passing my tests by one or two on here.
I had the XT's little brother, the 125.
I miss the fields and lanes that bike brought me to.

Nice. I nearly bought an XT600 earlier this year, was an '03 with 12k on the clock. It was on eBay but was local, I went to see it but it ended up going for £2600 which was more than I was willing to pay. In hindsight I wish I had bought it as fixing my EXC (which I bought instead) has cost me enough! I still keep an eye out for one.

Ah, but at least the one you ended up buying is an awesome shade of orange...and two six seems well over the top for a private sale XT.

I needed to replace the tyres, but reckoned I can just about see them through to 2017 before I do it. And it left me stranded in Milton Keynes (that sounds a great idea for a country and western song) when the battery went pffft. Aside from that it's been an economical buy.

Regularly get around 60mpg too, which makes filling up less frequent.

Odd, I know it never really excelled at anything in tests but there's a reason so many travellers have used them for global trips and adventures.

You can trick them out or use this chap too -> https://www.davidlambeth.co.uk
