Pretty cool bit of kit.

Are all the computer gubbins on the slate/tablet with the dock just for charging or is there extra grunt gubbins in the dock too?

I suspect the dock is just a charging station though.

Problem is Nintendo always seem to be Gimmicky with all their consoles these days. After a couple of weeks they just collect dust.

Dock like like charging and big screen connector.

Hope the price it correctly, Wii U was always overpriced imo, even now it's axed.

Nice idea, decent hardware, good publisher support but games on 32gb cartridges and possibly £300 asking price? Could be another Wii U.

I don't like Nintendo consoles since the N64. But this? This, I can get behind.
Nintendo lost the console race a few generations ago. But their handhelds have always been top selling. This seems like a nice compromise of portability with decent power.
They've moved the right analogue stick back to where it should be (a major bugbear - for me - on the WiiU). It won't affect sales, but it's definitely a good thing.
If they add some kind of achievement/trophy support then I think I'll buy one for the kids... (who am I kidding?)

Now, let's see, well it's a tablet with a Tegra chip and two wireless controllers. I smell a big failure or a great success.

Either way, let's not forget the WiiU, that still costs quite the same it did many years ago, and the reason is actully the WiiU gamepad, that Nintendo said, they still can't fabricate any cheaper. I don't know about the UK, but the WiiU here is still about £255. I always said, that I'm gonna buy the WiiU when the price goes down, well, that never happened.

I'm also quite curious about the backwards games compatibility. Is it going to be yet another: ''Hey people, remember the classic games you were playing 10-20 years ago? Now you may buy them again and replay your childhood memories in FullHD'' ? I mean that kind of thing Sony does with the remasters and PS2 games. Yes, you may buy, for instance, MaxPayne 1 for PS2 for your PS4 for only about £15, while having your actual PS2 physical copy of the game on your shelf. Dance!

Anyway, I would like to see them succeed, but this is not the way forward. Maybe Nintendo will kill the 3DS/DS division and it will be all Nintendo Switch from now on, that would work. Well, it's obviously the games that make a good gaming system, but I'm done with portable stuff. I have got a PSP (1000), GBC and every single time I played a game, I was at home, with the device plugged to the wall socket.

Question, how many of you actually play games on go? Not talking about Candy crush and that kind of stuff. I mean proper, big budget games.

This is an interesting point really.

When I was younger and spent loads of time in places I didn't actually want to be (school, bus to school, relatives, etc) then portable consoles were useful.

Now I can choose to stay at home or go to places that are actually interesting so I wouldn't want to play games.

When I had a PSP I did, then I got an iPod touch and used the PSP less and less... then not at all. With the exception of GTA I mainly play simpler games on the go, angry birds etc. that you can pickup and put down quickly (so when your boss comes around Wink).

I used to when I worked evening in the bookies. My PSP and then Vita got ample use. Right now, I don't play on the go. However, it's nice not to take up a tele with a console while the missus is watching Great British Bakeoff or whatever.
My PS4 is hooked up to my monitor (with a soundbar for audio) in the dining room. My PS3 also goes in to my monitor, but I have another HMDI cable which goes through the wall so I can play on the big tele when she's in bed.
I had a WiiU and used only the screen on the pad, but couldn't get on with the layout. It was just wrong.
This seems pretty good. Something I can play with the kids too, as Nintendo have a lot more child-centric games.
