Few snaps from last weekend that I took, i'm still pretty shit at taking photo's lol, only owned the camera (my first DSLR) a few days when the photo's were taken. Using Adobe Lightroom for post photo editing.

Great pics there bud. Love the graffiti shots I'll need to do something similar with my K6.

Good for a first attempt. Thumbs Up

My feedback would be have a look at other static photos in magazines etc. for inspiration. Find photos you like, why do you like them, what is it about them that makes them work. Look up the rule of thirds (understand it, then break it). Go out and shoot more. Take shit photos. Work out why they're shit.

1. Front wheel chopped off, perspective a bit weird?

2.Busy background, very tight crop to the bike, not it's most flattering angle.

3. Strongest of the set for me, nice one. Thumbs Up

4.Chopped half of a bike on the right, bikes in a line don't go anything for me.

5. Bike it a little soft (and about to get knocked over by the look of things). Wink

It's not meant to be harsh, and they are good for a first attempt. Thumbs Up

Brave riding round there, you local or just exploring the area? If it's not constant backed up traffic on the Highway then it's the uneven potholed roads that annoy me. I use it as part of my "test" route although you have to pick your time of day because lord help you if you get stuck in the school traffic. Could get some nice shots of cars down there since I think right at the very bottom is a car performance place. I'd be weary though given the area.

If you're in Small Heath again Tysley train station might be one for a more sunnier day. Nowhere to park a bike though so either wheel it inside the building and leave in a corner like a rebel, at your own risk, or go on foot, bit of an od ball location. Retro look with plenty of chances for action shots, slow mo panning shots etc.

-

Lightroom's good. In "Develop mode - Menu at the top that reads: Library, Develop, Map, Book etc - " (editing the pictures) on the right hand side there's even more menus: Basic, Tone Curve, HSL / Color / B&W etc. Go down to "Lens Correction" and tick "Enable profile corrections" and "Remove chromatic aberration" and that will clean them up nicely, you can also level the image while you're at it with the buttons underneath. Out of the camera shots might not look distorted but when you check the enable profile correction box you'll be surprised, kit lenses are worse but noting Lightroom won't clean up.

Try some black and white photo's and see what you think. I find you can get away with far more editing of the exposure, contrast etc in black and white than you can in colour.

In Lightroom on the very top menu bar if you go "Photo > Edit In > Adobe Photoshop (if you've got it, if not link it)" once you're done and that will export it into Photoshop whereby you can then either edit it with fine adjustments and then save it as PNG-24 or more high res if needed.

I could probably write more but that all do. Thumbs Up

I don't live by there, but know the area. We were parked up by MSL (the car dyno and tuning place), no cars came up to where we were (by the waste disposal warehouse/dead end) in the hour we were there.

I've only been using the basic adjustments on Lightroom for now, the other adjustments seem a bit overwhelming atm.

Ah, always knew there was something down there but not exactly what, might explain boy races in local area. I always go past and only time I've ever been down was during the CBT.

Any places to recommend visiting from there as day trips? .. Not to derail this thread just interested.

Pictures looking good. You almost make Bristol road look worth a visit. Laughing

How do you find riding without the mirrors?

You've got the right idea with location, road, path, line of trees, autumn leaves etc. Why not put the bike at the end of them and let the eyes wander up to the bike. If you use a long focal length the bike won't look so distant either. Good job though keep them coming 👍

They're certainly better than average, but some good advice above will improve things. My main issue is the lean on the bike! Is that the standard sidestand? Is it on a standard rear shock? If you look in magazines and stuff they tend to put something under the sidestand to get it more vertical - obviously this risks it being knocked/blown over but there is a happy ground where it is stable but mostly upright, rather than looking like it's about to fall over.

Yeah it was a common spot to meet pre-races & they've had a handful of meets at MSL. I've been to a few, bit boring from a bikers perspective though, unless you're into cars too.

Any places to recommend for photo's or riding routes?

Something is up with this bike.. it's odd.

It looks as if it's been lowered, as the tail end sits pretty low. But leans over a lot on the side stand, which would hint towards the bike actually being jacked up. I need to measure the dog bones and compare to standard as a starting point. The side stand looks identical to standard when comparing images off google and ebay to my bike.

From a photography point of view your bikes side stand makes your bike look like its leaning back a lot, the photos from completely side on don't work. You could consider taking something to lift the bike more up right to do that shot.

Here is a quick pic i took years ago of my old Kwaker. Its not perfect at all just a quick photo, should have straightened the front whell etc.

I don't have graffiti walls up here but i would consider trying to find a wall that you can put your bike a bit further away from to keep the bike in focus but blur the graffiti a bit.

I've got photo's like this, I just personally preferred this shot. The photo's i've posted are some of 300 that i've taken on that day. I just hand pick my personal favorites/best quality pics.

A few more snaps I took yesterday of a friend on his 690 SMC & his other buddy on a Husky 510 SMR. Again, not the best... but i'm getting there lol. Appreciate the feed back. These are also un-edited pic's.

I also tried some rolling shots for the first time, they look as if they've been taken on a phone... but pretty cool snaps I thought.

Advise on rolling shots would be greatly received. I tried doing it on P mode (which I normally set it in for stills and then aim to get the aperture figure as low as possible & shutter speed as high possible and aim for the lowest ISO before the photo's go blurry and adjust till it's not blurry again, the lowest my lens goes to is F4) but they all came out shit to be frank. I ended up putting it into 'sport' mode and just snapping away, but nothing came out very good.

Try shutter priority and ~1/200 for rolling shots, and change the focus mode to the one that tracks the subject (can't think of the name of it, but it's the furthest right on the menu option).

Don't be too afraid of using a higher ISO when the conditions are damp / drab like that - don't know what you took those on but you can push 400 without getting a massive amount of noise. This will give you a higher F number for the shutter speed whilst still getting a good exposure.

One more thing I would add to the comments on composition. In a shot like this:

It doesn't need to be a lot, but just enough to give the feeling that the bike is going into the picture, rather than heading out of the frame. But as Wafer says, there are also times when you will get better results by breaking the rules too.

This is how I mean (although I'm the first to admit I'm not a great photographer myself!):

You're photo's look great. It's difficult given the lack of space while equipped with a 75-300 lens (I wish i'd bought a non-kit 18-55 now) it's difficult to do so without having a a few meters behind me to get far enough back to take a better shot.

Does this look any better? Took at it the same time and tbf it's probably the better shot...

I would've done something with the positioning of the bike in shot more like this:

https://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b550/nicknicklxs/IMG_0464raw_zpsrgr8sm6r.jpg

Although working after the fact with your shot, I'm a little limited in what I can achieve in edit, so by cropping I've had to go tighter in to the bike, which isn't necessarily what I mean. I've also had to crop a little closer than I would have liked to try to keep the overall frame height/width proportions to my liking, after getting the bike position in shot as I would prefer it. But it's only suggestions, and what I would do Smile

Also, it's not perhaps the ideal pic for me to show what I mean, as the lane behind the bike is trying to suggest something different too. Never mind, just ignore me Laughing

Ah no, I see what you mean. I believe it's called the rule of thirds and somethings that's commonly practiced. Something i'll take on board when snapping next Smile
