Hello all,
got my first big bike it's a 03 suzuki bandit 600 that had 42000 miles

https://i1197.photobucket.com/albums/aa430/Rilo_UK/15725721_10210420437885878_961216533_o_zpsezdquta2.jpg

the wiring is not up a standard I'd like so I'm trying to sort a few things out like the heated grips that don't work etc and I can't even figure out how to get this damn shell off Laughing

any advice or is there already a guide/thread? I tried searching but couldn't find any

https://i1197.photobucket.com/albums/aa430/Rilo_UK/front%20fair_zpsavl8gkzl.jpg
you can see a screw missing in this, came out with ease and the other one I can't even get out (already rounded off) me an a friend got the dremil on it and even with a piece of thin metal couldn't get this one to budge (was locked in good an I turned so hard it was warping the metal and eventually my hands was shaking trying) so I can get inside and replace a headlight bulb

https://i1197.photobucket.com/albums/aa430/Rilo_UK/cut%20screw_zpshcpxdyag.jpg

any advice? Laughing thanks

You don't need to take off the fairing to change the headlight bulb.

To take them off, though, you need to undo that screw, and the ones holding the side fairings (two on each side and two on the black surround, and one each side near where the fairing meets the screen, from memory) then take the mirrors off (lift the rubber and there's bolts underneath)

Once you've done that, it should just pull apart ( the windscreen might need to flex a bit to get it off the mirror studs)

Sorry, already added some info when I realised you were having other electrical issues.

Ah okay.. as long as I was going in the right direction as I have removed all the screws you mentioned, still new myself so just needed to make sure.. I just need to figure a way to get that screw out then as its jammed tight in there, I'll give it another go!

Just remembered, there are some plastic expanding rivets holding the side panels to the 'chin' .... You should be able to pop the cores out with a screwdriver then they'll pull apart.

Looks like that screw will be the only issue. Give it plenty of PlusGas from underneath ... the fairing frame and fasteners do rust a bit!

I was a bit daunted when I first attacked mine but it's all fairly simple really.

Make sure you note which screws came from where as they are all very slightly different Very Happy

Why not do what everyone else with a bandit does to remove the fairing and drive it into a tree?

Sounds a bit obvious but where is the chin? Embarassed
An yeah I am a bit daunted because saved up a while for it an I don't wanna go damaging it anymore than the scratches I've made trying to get that screw out..

And nobby trees are hard to find in a council estate, would a brick wall or a ket-wig on a crosser do?

I can't get at it from the other side unless you think spraying it down the sides of the screw would work, but yeah I tried a flathead they all was tearing though the screw, and my infamous "piece of thin metal" is a butterknife but it fits so well and lots of leverage Laughing

I'd probably order a set of fairing screws now, as no doubt the cheese ones tend to melt and the stubborn ones will get damaged when you eventually persuade them to vacate the vehicle.

Should be plenty of room to get your hands in between the bars and the dash / fairing. I've done it and I'm a ham fisted old git

The bulbs just twist and pull out of the back of the headlamp.

Oh, and by chin I just meant the piece of fairing under the headlamp. It's screwed to the frame and clipped to the side fairings.

Okay we managed to finally get that screw to budge by cutting another fresh slice to now make a cross and with some wd40 and many twists forward and back it finally came loose- it was cross threaded so I'm going to be ordering a whole set of fairing screws only a tenner.. the whole front is now fairing free and lots of useless wiring ripped out looking lots better now.. need to get some oxford heated grips as the ones on the bike didn't work at all so tore them off and its looking very poorly now haha but all is good Thumbs Up except it has aftermarket bulb sockets so the bulb I ordered is useless
