I bought a new XSR700 in mid-2016. It was a second bike to an R1 at the time. I liked the style and simplicity, and the VFM, and after a fairly long test ride, my impression was that it was really quite dynamically capable for what it is, and great fun at sane speeds.
I enjoyed it for a while, but that didn't last long. After a few hundred miles, I was bored with the engine performance, and very frustrated with the unnecessarily soft, unadjustable, crude suspension. The chassis is (IMO) as good as anything else in its class (better than most), but it really is let down by the budget suspension. Same with the MT-07, and with the MT-09/XSR900 to a lesser degree.
I sold it immediately after the first service.
I now have a Street Triple R for the same job (second bike/runaround). It's so much better than the XSR700 in every respect, and better than the XSR900 in most respects. A bit more expensive new, but there are many bikes available used. |

That's quite funny in that a xsr or STR or whatever I get will be my fun bike in addition to a commuter, if and when I can find the funds! |
