Working on a Lexmoto gladiator 125 for a family member currently that does not start.

So checked the following..

Spark (and a fresh spark plug)
Fuel in carb
Vacuum tap functioning
Fresh fuel (drained all the old fuel out)
Cleaned the carb twice with compressor etc..
Checked carb diaphragms
Bit of fuel down the head (the spark plug hole)
Checked all the wiring was ok and cleaned contacts
Took flywheel off to check stator.
CDI from a running bike
Coil from a running bike
Still sparking as well as before but not running..
Spark plug is getting wet with fuel.

Sprayed some more flamibles in the carb while turning over just incase
No sidestand kill switch
more fuel down the head / brake cleaner or whatevers flammable

Started thinking of compression now (compression tester was broke) so i removed the head and barrel. Checked the piston rings and lapped the valves in a bit just to be sure. Set the timing correctly.
The thumb test shows plenty of thumb compression.

Built it all back up and still nothing at all!

I mean i can't imagine a 9000km albeit chinese bike losing compression , but with crap oil maybe..

Confused and puzzled is an understatement.

Any help much appreciated

(bit of an essay i know but just want to make clear all the things i have tried)

Just a guess do you have to have the lights on or pull a brake lever in to start it.

bypass2: yes the levers in and its turning over with a spark.

WD Forte: Valve timing is correct, ignition timing i have not checked other than the fact its pretty fixed with the standad setup. The woodruff key is fine and the pickup is where it should be.

Thanks for the ideas

If you have confirmed the spark and the plug is wet, it means some fuel is getting in there. Even with maladjusted timing I would expect a bang or a chuff from it.
I'm guessing you are using the electric starter...?
Hook it up to a well charged battery, car type preferably. This eliminates a drooping charge from the bikes battery. Most plugs will spark in the open air, but the load of the starter motor against the compression of the engine can drop start volts below the level that will give a spark inside the engine.

yes its electric and kick but neither has any success.

There is spark and the plug is getting wet yes. I thought the same. There should be at least some sort of fuel igniting going on.

I've had it connected to a well charged car battery, and the starters been spinning faster than it ever has. Still no joy!
Different spark plugs, new and old.
Also tried a spare working carb and spare working coil.

I wonder if the stators failing and producing an erratic or mis timed spark?

I know it must sound like i'm missing something obvious, and i hope i am. I work teaching motorcycle mechanics so have some insight (i hope.. lol).
But i've almost tried everything i can think of with this and i'm at a loss!

I guess i should also get a working compression tester on it.

Thanks for all the advice.

You could try toasting the spark plug over a gas ring..........
But you do seem to have covered all of the bases I would try.
As I say, try heating the spark plug AND get a blow lamp on the barrel / head. Get it really hot! If it dont go then......... I'm just glad its not in my workshop!

after removing the head and barrel once again just to double check things it started!!

I didn't have new gaskets so slapped a load of gasket sealant on both the base gasket and headgasket.
Im thinking the headgasket must have failed, losing compression and the sealant has filled the gap so to speak.

Its leaking oil badly from the base gasket now, so a new set of gaskets and i can get rid of the bloody thing haha!

Thanks for all the help.
