Posted: 12:46 - 11 Jan 2017 Post subject: Am i getting enough mileage from my 125 ? |
|
|
Hi all, i only passed my CBT in august 2016 i currently ride a Yamaha 125 wrx. i use my bike to commute to work daily Monday to Friday, its a distance of 35 miles there and 35 coming back a total of 70 miles per day, 175 miles per week.
the fuel tank on the Yamaha is just 8.5 liters. which is small i know. i only get 3 journeys out of a full tank, this is only giving me just over 100 miles, i have to fill up pretty much every day !!! i use A roads and pretty much stay at 55 mph.
Is this normal for this bike?
thanks [/b] ____________________ TB09 |

56ish MPG.
That's if you are using all of the 8.5L in the tank for your 105 miles.
There are few vehicles that will do that sort of MPG in the real world in real world conditions.
INB4 'my car....blar blar' I drive a brand new 2.0 TDI car that claims 70+MPG - it does 50 or so tops. |

It doesn't sound like a great MPG but your riding style is the most important part of achieving anywhere near a manufacturers stated figures.
That's even more difficult to achieve on a 125 as there are certain roads where you need to whack on the throttle to make sure you don't potatoe yourself.
Whilst some riders just love rev'ing the nuts off a bike and don't seem to understand the low mpg that results from that.
So firstly you need to make sure what mpg you have now, then have a few days riding like granny and check your mpg at the same time.
If the granny riding doesn't improve the mpg dramatically then, yes mention it the next time the garage look at the bike.
Whatever the outcome, smooth throttle use will make a difference to the mpg, but not necessarily that big a difference.
(I don't want to see a video of you granny riding thanks ) ____________________ The above comment isn't necessarily the truth and anyone that says it is, is only correct if it's the truth or they're bigger than me. |

I used to get around 95 - 100mpg out of my AJS (Yamaha YBR engine), and that was thrashing it everywhere.
55 sounds a bit low to me. Leaking? Smell rich? Bad math ? ____________________ Triumph Sprint ST 1050. And it's Red. |

My DT125RE, so two stroke and not overly efficient
fill about £8 of 99ron
refill at anywhere between 100-125 miles
So even I must be doing in the order of 70mpg.
