Excellent news!

I thought the Euro-tunnel would cost more than that, so that's pleasing to hear. I've only ever been in a car, I take it a bike needs strapping down?

Look forward to the pics Smile

I asked about luggage a while ago and was told hard panniers are ok left on, how come you didn't take the sleeper train instead of flying? saves on the cost of a hotel for the night.
Ours is all booked now to, we leave here 16th June and stay a night in Folkstone, catch Eurotunnel Friday morning and drop the bikes off in Paris sometime that day, overnight train(cost us £47.50 each in a 4 berth room) pick bikes up after 12pm Saturday then ride back through the alps and Black Forest. Can't bloody wait!

hmmm mines soft luggage. really didnt want to be taking them off plus its going to cost me a fortune with extra baggage on the flights if i do.

i'm guessing its at my own risk, only leaving clothes in them anyway.

I bought these for £100 at a bike show. These will probably go for about £120.

For rider to pilion, they're great if you have a screen: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Interphone-F3MC-intercom-duel-intercom-set-rider-and-pillion-unused-/262369426766?hash=item3d166fbd4e:g:lncAAOSwAvJXApTs

That surprises me! Low chance of the bikes going over? Or do you need to stand with them the whole journey?

Either stand by or sit on, depends how stable the bike is on its stand really. Not like there's anything else to do

On the Eurotunnel the bike is parked diagonally on its side stand. Leave it in gear and it will be fine. I carry a length of double sided velcro which I use to hold on the front brake but it isn't necessary. You stay with the bike except to use the loo or get a coffee and you won't be the only one.

Didn't read it all so not sure of your route but here are some points of interest you may find useful:

PostPosted: 02:40 - 15 Jan 2017    Post subject: Hull ferry yes - motorail - No Reply with quote

Hi there

I've ridden down from Scotland many times and I found the Hull ferry to be good investment/start to the trip (treat as a mini cruise) I've done the Dover-Calais route as well and if you work out the time/cost/wear on bike its good value.

But sticking my bike on a train - no way, not for the price. You can cover a lot of ground in one day on motorways or even meander around the autoroute/strada/bahn.

Book hotels using lots of apps ... airBnb hotels.com, booking.com .. endless list of them.

Dont over plan is my best advice. Then again, know what you want to see/do. I missed some stuff in South america as I just rode past and missed some awesome things. You will always find a place to stay, and if not, it becomes an adventure Smile
