I want to get a pair of wheels powder coated.

triple s are highly recommended and reviews are great... but including shipping it would be £150 for the pair...

Anyone know anywhere else that would be able to do it and know enough about bikes to mask off the right things.

I'm based in South London and obviously down the road from me would be nice but not essential.

No, I was looking for recommendations not a list of powder coaters...

Gave them a call just now and they say they can't do them as their sand blasting is too aggressive and would dent the ally.

Annoying as they sounded hopeful otherwise.

My local bike shop recommended paint rather than powder-coat. They say as more new bikes come with powder-coated wheels they're seeing an increase in chipping of the rims during tyre changes. Powder-coat is harder than paint and therefore resistant to scratching but with hardness comes brittleness.

I had my wheels and swingarm shot-blasted and etch-primed by a local firm with experience of bikes. I then smoothed down the finish myself, bought paint from RS Bike Paints and had a local classic car restorers spray and lacquer them. They came out lovely. Don't dismiss a paint job.

It's not the first time I've heard someone say that and I actually asked both the places below about chipping and they both pretty much said that no one has ever returned a wheel to them because of chipping.

https://adeptindustrialfinishers.co.uk/index.html
These guys will do it for £50 a wheel

https://www.willowpowdercoating.co.uk/
These guys for £60 a wheel

Both sound confident like they seem to know what they're doing and I can't seem to find a reason to favour either apart from price so I'll probably go with adept.

Just for the lols these guys said £250 for the pair...

B&P in Sittingbourne quoted me about £50 a wheel, its a bit out of the way but postage would be about 20 quid if Adept have a long waiting list Thumbs Up

Hmm good point, if adept are too busy we can try B&P for a 4 wheel discount and send ours together Wink

I've literally just whipped the wheels off and taken off the disks and sprocket. Off to get the tyres taken off in about an hour.

I worked in a powdecoaters, anyone half decent will know what too mask we always had a lot of frames/wheels/swingarms in from race bikes to classic restorations. You also want to give them the wheels with the bearings removed and order new ones if you never knew

I got my gsxr wheels done by a dirty looking bloke in a shed at the back of a farm for £30 each in 2015. obviously without bearings and tyre fitting though.

no chips after 4/5k.

I need to get the triumphs done but might just spray them myself for cheaps.

My wheels were plastic coated by CPC down in Borough Green near Wrotham (near Brands Hatch).Curt did a really good job and worked out at about £30 per wheel and he did all of the masking of relevant places

https://i1073.photobucket.com/albums/w384/Rhencullen5/FJ1200/20160506_185903_zpszkh8m3qe.jpg

He also did my FJ frame, the bottom yoke, footrest hangers, pannier brackets and several other parts for £180,so the estimate of £30 per wheel is that,an estimate.

CPC are on farcebook

Dropped them off at adept today to get blasted with glass and painted in their satin black.

The guy who runs it, I think his name is Francis, seemed really nice and knowledgeable. He said my wheels should be done by the end of next week.

Will update when I get them back.
