Ready for the fight. Not so much street fighter as street brawler.

Plastidip bodywork came out well. Note this is with the blanked out grab rail mod I did ages ago, new seat is just as flat black as the bike haha.

Bulldog bash went well, handled the 260 mile round trip immaculately. Performed like this on the strip:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2gQaAPrAG0&feature=youtu.be

Best eventual time was a 10.109@140.14 mph, with 6.65@115.5 mph at the 1/8th mile. With a couple more inches on the wheelbase (check the short shift in first), which I could get from adding a couple of links in the chain, a decent rear tyre, and vanning it up there so I can beat on it properly without worrying about being AA'd back down, it's a comfortable 9 second bike which is modified busa territory.

Will be faster with a better rider on it too. Laughing

Local sportsbike club had a photoshoot for their plastic fantastics, so I gate crashed on the naked pig.

Right, the new season begins, that means new mods, a rebuild and a reboot.

Carrying on work wth the bandit:

New sprocket carrier bearing beat in using the heat to the rim and bearing in the fridge method lol.

https://s11.postimg.org/a7a28c3df/11083619_10153180167388485_1422748195358344199_n.jpg

Couldn't for the life of me remember why I was so keen to change the bearing. It was feeling ok. When I prised the dust cover off I remembered that it was because the bike was going for a dyno session and the sprocket bearing had failed. In my haste the only one I could find was an open bearing, should be sealed.

https://s11.postimg.org/ky2a7r6dv/11083841_10153180167988485_4601572822203365229_n.jpg

Hub pins cleaned up (scrubbed with emery cloth) and lightly greased ready for the new 42t sprocket.

Headers rewrapped - due to the way the pipes are arranged, in order for the turbo setup to fit behind the front wheel, header wrap is an absolute necessity in order to prevent the exhaust system using the oil cooler as a heatsink.

https://s11.postimg.org/4gfagv5zn/10676148_10153150423563485_7656646860321782687_n.jpg

Looking rather bare at the moment, lets rebuild it!

https://s11.postimg.org/mpm2b6az7/10430885_10153150423333485_3291139289047158657_n.jpg

Remember what I was saying about pad material buidling up in the vent holes of the disc? the bottom holes have been punched out, the top holes are how they start out. How much material can really be in them?

https://s11.postimg.org/i8yaq8m4z/10356728_10153150423108485_3398569408086483308_n.jpg

Lots. And to prove how often I do this, I can tell you there are 64 vent holes in the discs of a 2005 GSXR 600, not many people can tell you that off the top of their head.

That done, and having already cleaned up the forks, parts start going back on the bike.

https://s11.postimg.org/v2wcjkzkj/11083928_10153180168088485_1174148124373287387_n.jpg

Turbo assembly bolted back up with new exhaust gaskets.

https://s11.postimg.org/hgvmr1hxv/11081089_10153180166933485_6919566660210396296_n.jpg

New UK made Ramair tubing with a 6mm internal/10mm outer. Should prevent ballooning. The old pipework used to visibly expand under load at 5psi, so upping the boost this is probably a good idea.

https://s11.postimg.org/xduenrac3/11081223_10153180168198485_8364531677662959612_n.jpg

Forks back in. At this point I decided I didn't like the Dommies anymore so started tarting with a new big headlight. not sure what it's off, but it's all metal and has the 'S' for Suzuki stamped on it.

https://s12.postimg.org/bymjd81fh/11129639_10153187846918485_5302676470333223522_n.jpg

Came out rather nice I think. My mate told me I'd need a new screen as you can't cut the airblades without cracking them. I laughed and proceeded to dremel the screen to the right shape, turned the brackets inside out, bent them the other way and redrilled them and bob's your uncle... new screen.

Front wheel back in with cleaned and painted discs and new bearings.

https://s11.postimg.org/yvfuzbf2r/11082543_10153180166653485_8799220837221296338_n.jpg

With a new filter...

Carbs back in with new cables. I haven't put the plenum back on yet as I want to change the silicone joining pipes for new ones as they look gash.

Along with the wastegate this is the most important mod to go on the bike concerning it's strip time. Using the same chain, a 42t sprocket goes on the rebuilt hub, giving more suitable strip gearing and at the same time allowing the extensions to reach their potential. She now sits at a full fat 62" wheelbase, which is impressive considering the front forks shorten the wheelbase by 1.5" compared to standard.

https://s12.postimg.org/5c4gxs94t/10987331_10153187847203485_5435700026196251378_n.jpg

This is how she sits at the moment. I still need to make a new torque rod, fit a new pump/regulator/wastegate, get the valve clearances checked and so on. But the chassis is ready for abuse...

Looking good mate!

Can I ask where you get your vac hose clamps from, and if your going to fit them on the wastegate nipples too?

I've got my car pipework like yours, just with the vac tubing pushed onto the wastegate elbows, but have always been told that should they come off, it could result in overboosting? I've never had a set up with an external wastegate before, and I know it's got a 10psi spring in it, but is it as dangerous if the hose's come off as it would be in an internally gated turbo?

Auto silicone hoses do a 45 piece stainless set of differing sizes for about 9 quid. If you just put vacuum hose clips into ebay it'll come up.

You really don't want any pipes loose on or around the wastegate. The top pipe bleeds to atmosphere, if you link it into the system and run a bleed valve you have a boost controller. The lower pipe is a signal that runs to the plenum, if that gets loose you will boost until it blows.

The external wastegate is a more elegant and adjustable solution for a turbo but does allow for more capacity for failure as well as the fact that most wastegates, apart from the turbosmart models (yes, even the hks/Tiel etc.), leak like a sieve when pressure tested.

Replacing or rebuilding the wastegate every couple of years is a good idea as the diaphragm can fail and the valve stem can seize. Both of these will ruin your day...

How are those swingarm is extensions joined? they don't look very secure to my untrained eye. I wouldn't want to trust them!

They are shaped to completely fill the chain adjuster holes so the load is taken by the whole back of the swingarm. They then bolt through plates on the inside of the swingarm that are about 8mm thick.

They aren't going nowhere.

Thought I should probably update this.

The bike has undergone many changes since it was last seen in this thread. It now wears a standard Bandit front end, nose fairing and looks like a proper bike.

The Bandit front end has a less severe offset than the GSXR front end, this allows me far more adjustability in terms of ride height.

Tie down straps, a 1.5 inch drop in the front and a 3 inch drop in the rear give this stance...

https://s29.postimg.org/fygz3j7zb/14067690_10154433518158485_6822564641077251627_n.jpg

Still a bitzer, but a coherent one...

Also, drag radial...

That is so incredibly sexy if I may say so (Although I did prefer the naked front end). What made you go for the fairings? Tired of getting battered by the wind on the strip?

Also, if I'm not mistaken, this thread still lacks video Laughing Crying or Very sad

Front fairing brought a 3 mph increase in terminal speed at the 1320ft mark. In the world where more HP costs serious cash, sticking original bodywork back on is seriously cheap.
