Had a ride out to Cheddar today. Was ruddy freezing.

I live close to there, can confirm it's been 'fuck that for a laugh' cold here all day. My lawn never defrosted from
last night and its getting dark again. Great clearing up dogshit weather though. Thumbs Up

The roads were great and it was really sunny leaving Bristol, but the further into Somerset we got it was just white and freezing. Quick pint in the White Hart was the perfect warming pit stop.

It is nicer today, but I think I've left it a bit late to go out now.

This is what's been stopping me from getting out on the bike, more than just the cold. Already seeing the light lasting a bit longer though, so we're getting there Smile

Feck me, that is early! I'm not expecting anything great till at least March, just want to be able to get out for a few shorter runs before, weather permitting. Been getting up too late to make best use of the day, and anyway, had a few sharp frosts that haven't cleared fully all day. This afternoon wouldn't have been so bad, if I could have dragged myself out of me pit a bit earlier Rolling Eyes

What a cracking day that was - just the tonic I needed to lift the winter blues! Very Happy
Hacked it down to the Filling Station cafe in Keswick for a bacon butty and cuppa. Usual welcoming, pretty smiling face serving at the counter Smile
The day was properly spring-like; mild, a gentle breeze, sunny. Roads were mostly dry (took a little care in shaded areas, where it was still a bit cool and damp), and was able to seriously wind the taps on Twisted Evil
From Keswick, took the A591 down to Ambleside. Caught the beautiful stretch of grippy, winding tarmac down alongside Thirlmere almost empty; just a couple of bikes, riders obviously still in winter mode, and a couple of cars to zap past, the Striple screaming happily.

Took a couple of snaps just outside of Keswick, but was having too much fun to stop for more:

Helvellyn in the cloud:

https://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b550/nicknicklxs/DSCN8215_zpsi62dz896.jpg

Stopped at Ambleside to wander round the outdoor gear shops, looking more for biking solutions than for the hills. Saw some interesting possible solutions to the problem of bulky bike gear - might have to go and try some things on, but didn't bother today. Got chatting to a nice young lady in one of the shops, and we both bemoaned the lack of imagination in colours of fleeces &c. Rolling Eyes

Then back the same way, and this time caught the 591 by Thirlmere completely empty - yeehah! What a hoot! Twisted Evil

Couple more shots from nearly the same place on the way back to the cafe.
Farm with Grisedale Pike in the background:

Skiddaw:

Then ragged it past all the traffic on the 595 back to Carlisle, taking every fleeting chance to get past cars, lorries and tractors; seemed like I got home in about 2 minutes Laughing

chickenstrip is very, very Very Happy

I hope so, but I think we're back to freezing cold as of tomorrow. But today was what this biking thing is all about. Just perfect!

Cold, wet, foggy, greasy roads and generally miserable but always good to catch up with the lads Thumbs Up

No pics, cos today's ride was a completely lunatic and irresponsible hoon from start to finish, and only stopped for a cuppa. Considering I've only ridden a bike about 4 times this winter, I think I can safely say that lack of winter riding has zero effect on my confidence, as long as conditions are halfway reasonable, as they were (for the most part) today Smile

Did my favourite Lake District route, about 140 miles, and found myself clicking with the Striple more than ever before, keeping that little hussy on the boil around 8 grand and above for most of that mileage, and screaming it to the limiter in every gear at every opportunity Twisted Evil So come summer, my license is most probably going to get shredded. Just goes to show, it isn't necessarily bigger bikes that threaten this fate. And I could probably do with buying shares in a petroleum company. Best part of two tankfuls in 140 miles - that's not very good, is it? Laughing

Not much to see where I`ve been on my Chinese pos Smile again just a few errands around the locale : Wherestead, Somersham, Bramford & home.
What was nice was to take the back lanes and not get involved in the traffic Grand Prix.
And the sun even shone Smile Thumbs Up

I did my bit for keeping with this tradition and parked in the disabled parking at Brooklands. Zero fecks given.*

I'll admit, the topbox does tarnish the rebel image a smidge.

Took the Striple out for first time since "fixing" the electrics. For the last month my daily ride has been a 20bhp dirt bike. Jumping back on 105bhp for the first time since November was hilarious, brain was quite confused for a couple of miles Smile

Went to Brooklands Breakfast Club to meet some people I used to work with. £10, full English breakfast, endless coffees (which were excellent) and full access to the museum / site.

This is probably cheating, as it wasn't today, because I am in fact at work... but... was very excited for my first ride in months. Ended up on a solo to Newland's Corner.
