I`m thinking of all sort of ideas for places to go for the summer/new year.
Most of them will never happen as per normal.

I done the four points on the British mainland and was now thinking about the four points of the British Isles Shocked .

So has anyone done it? did you come across any particular problems?
I might, possibly/maybe try to get to the most northerly point on the British Isles this year.

Will I need to camp or are there B&B`s up there?

Tell me what you know/think oh mighty BCF!

So maybe I should pack something to take care of wind Shocked Laughing

Sorry I`ll be serious from now on Thumbs Up

I think the adventure for me would be the Scottish Isles, as I have never been there before.

Yes!!

Having said that, both my brother and I have said about going back to explore where we used to live.

I believe the old RAF site has been converted to business park and possibly accomodation too.

There's the Valhalla brewery/distillery, I'd imagine you could probably pick up some fishing while up there and there used to be big viking type celebrations on the longest day of the year as it didn't get dark.

I guess it depends on whether you want to take a photo to say you've been or explore for a few days. It's an overnight ferry from Aberdeen to Lerwick, and then 2 or 3 more ferries between the islands to get to Unst.

Thumbs Up

The cardinal points are pretty much all uninhabited and inaccessible lumps of rock.

Perhaps you want the 4 cardinal public roads instead?

Cardinal point bus shelters? The Northerly one isn't a bad destination if you need an excuse to go somewhere. it was simply fabulous when I went there.

Unst is a LONG way away. Minimum three ferry journeys from the Scottish mainland. Not much there. You can easily go there and back from Sheltand mainland in a day.

Camp where you like. There are quite a few "tombola" beaches around the Shetlands. You can usually find a fairly sheltered area to camp one side or the other of the tombola with some driftwood for a fire.

Or see if you can blag an invite to the Simmer Dim rally? That's worth going to.

Always wanted to visit Skara Brae on Orkney myself. Don't know if I'll ever get around to it. And Arran appeals, especially as it's not so far north, so a good chance I will do that one. I've been told that it's like a microcosm of the Highlands in its own right.
I was also told that Islay is worth a visit, maybe not so much Jura.

Weather was ok when I rode around the Kintyre peninsula - I do have the advantage that I can watch the forecast and go at the drop of a hat Mr. Green

Was hardly anyone on the ferry either, although this was early October.

If I could afford it then I'd be interested in visiting the most northerly 5-Star hotel in the UK Cool

Nothing wrong with 'Easy' occasionally.
The main qualification of a few former girlfriends Laughing

More to prove we got a GPz305 to Unst without it exploding.

That's a fairly safe bet if it got there by trailer Laughing

I've driven a few bits oop proper North but not biked. Skye would be brilliant on a bike, the North Eastern roads up round Dundee and Cairngorm seem to take forever to get anywhere, Ardnamurchan is equally beautiful but mostly a single lane road as soon as you leave the Corran ferry with some tricksy bends and speedy local salmon farmers (Edit: and ferking caravans).

The B8006 I believe , one of the most sneaky dangerous roads I have ever ridden.
Loads and loads of small tight bends that will bite you as quick as you like if you disregard them.
Very narrow in places, and corners with adverse cambers Shocked .
Now add one cold and wet rider and you have a recipe for a crash!

I came close, but managed to wind my neck in and ride safe until I got to the light-house. Smile

If you get a chance, stop by the Crask Inn on the road north from Lairg to Alltnaharra. A quirky farmhouse/b&b/pub run a lovely elderly pair and smack bang in the middle of nowhere.

There is no WIFI and no mains electricity (a diesel generator sorts that) and the decor is a little run down but nowhere have I felt so warmly welcomed. A great evening sat by the peat burning stove, tucking into one of Kai's home cooked meals and washing it down with a pint from the bar in the lounge.

IIRC it's £45 for a room with breakfast and dinner, they also allow camping on the front lawn for free.
