I've tried to talk myself into buying one of these a few times. I figure as long as you factor in the cost of a engine rebuild when you do you should be ok! Laughing

231 version I hope?

Get yourself a drum of mineral oil and refill with that. Enjoy the rotor rebuild, Apex are good.

A high mileage RX8 and a Mk1 R6? Fancy a GPz305 to go with that sir?

Its a fine pair that both require revving the tits out of to get anywhere, like blowing engines and/or gearboxes, require a tanker of oil and petrol in tow and makes me stand out as having a small penis.

I like automobile roulette but not going as far as the GPz Marjay. Smile

Aye paddy it's the 231 version.

Nice winter bike is that! Wink

Great value for the handling and space and performance now. But unlike others the RX8 with its weird suicide rear doors has never done it for me.

The problem is I'd never be able to walk past an mk2 or mk3 RX7 to get to one. Now I'm a bit more mature I know that twin turbo's and a rotary wankel engine is not a good combination for long term dependability, but then I'd roll the dice on a 1.8turbo K-series engine, which can't be any more reliable at best.

Best thing with an RX7 or 8 even now, is when you reach the end of your love/patience or budget for the rotary engine, there's several companies doing good business in dropping in a nice little sensible LS1 unit instead. Laughing

Well so far this cheap (lol) winter run around RX8 has costs me more than I'd care to admit, she's had:

2X Engine Mounts
4 x coils leads and plugs
1 x Cat
2 x Rear mintex discs and pads
4 x Falken-azenis-fk510-225-45-r18-95-y tyres
1 x K&N air filter
1 x 'p' as the p from the 'pz' was missing from the right hand side
1 x 'prodrive oz' insert for the wheel as one was missing.
1 x oil sump pan
1 x Service with fucking expensive oil

Getting prices to get the bodywork bang on at the moment.

Determined to get the car good as the engine is fine.

On saying that the R6 starts first turn, has smooth gear changes in any gear, loves to go screemingly quickly and costs me nothing but fuel.... roll on summer Smile

Effing cars!

It is pointless running an RX8 on expensive oil. Simple mineral oil checked routinely is fine and what was insisted when I worked at Mazda, not a chance I'd be chucking pricy shit in there.

I'd be saving for the rotor rebuild.

I'm using 5w30, car is actually running fine. For once I may have landed a cracker even though I spent £750 on her so that's £1750 for a now sorted RX8. Can't be bad.

Loving the car. Rev it to death, No doubt I'll be neeeding a refurbed ported rotor motor at some point.

On another note I actually saw a Harley rider out in the rain, chrome and all. Couldn't fecking believe it.

Weathers getting better so the R6 will be out in full swing at 10k revs very soon.

Fuck life is good or would be if my wife hadn't died last month...oh really feck that is.

Still got the R6.

But in general life's been a bit of a twat lately

Wife has died and my son still has Lennoxe Guastuat Syndrome

Had to stop working but at least can blow the cobwebs away on the R6....Nothing beats depression and fecking grievance like 15k revs. Smile

Oh and happy new year and be safe.

Sorry to hear that Struan. I was reading this thread from the start with such a smile on my face. Your enviable toys, the humorous writing style etc really makes for a fun thread.

I can't imagine what you're going through, but the bike will help. Don't take it out when you're upset, that's how mistakes can happen. But there's nothing like a bit of two wheel therapy to clear a mind.

Definately a NC24....the body work has a lot of gaffa tape holding it together. Goodness knows where the 'shell' came from. Love little 400cc bikes.

Any one want to swap my R6 for an old but in good condition 400 sports bike? Variety is the way to go in this life. After that I'm going to get myself a Honda Shadow.

It was very sudden mate, diagnosed in November 2016 died February 2017 from pancreatic cancer. Like fucking sledgehammer. (still got my bike though)

LGS is a severe epilepsy my heart goes out to you colleague.

Maybe a bit off topic but my wife used 1 gram a day of high THC cannabis oil for the three months before she died. Obviously it didn't cure her cancer but helped with the symptoms; nausea, appetite and general mental well being. It is a nightmare when you've got your faculties but know your going to die in a matter of months.

Max, well we are work in progress with, but i'll get there.

Anyway the roar of a screaming R6 helps Smile

Thanks for your kind comments mate.

I like RX7's but I couldn't afford a decent one. Anyway they are fine on the racetrack when the revs maintain in the power band, but for everyday driving it would be a pain. The RX8 is less so but still hopeless at low revs.

Edit. What's an LS1 unit? Sounds interesting.

Want a sidecar, willing to consider anything. I have an R6 if you wanted a deal . Also will pay cash for the correct sidecar.

I'll bet no one here will admit to owning a sidecar? Paddy surely you must of had one at some point. Razz

Well I gave up on the sidecar idea. I've still got my reliable R6. The RX8 will hopefully be sold today later on. Will be sorry to see it go it's a beautiful car and I've spent a fortune on it.

Not been riding for a while but am going out next week to get my mojo back.

I've managed to convince a friend that it is a good idea to have a bike. He, like me, is middle aged. He wants a Harley and he's not even been on the CBT bike yet....we'll see how this pans out.

I can just see the headlines though. '52 year old man found up a tree with throbbing bike beneath him'.

Well I'm just putting the R6 up for sale. She's a wee monster with screaming revs on an A road but she has to go as I will seriously damage myself at some point.

I am going to get myself a Honda 750 Shadow, sorry about that. I promise to wear RST Black series leathers, full face helmet and racing boots on my cruiser.

I've always fancied a Shadow as my first bike was a 125 Shadow.

What are your thoughts about me jumping ship from a sports bike?

Hmmmmn?
Would have been much better if you'd said 'swapping R6 for V-max for some very different shaped Yamaha thrills'

But you said 'Shadow' Shocked Laughing
Tbh it's a pretty nice, and well made cruiser and they are smooth quiet and look very comfy too. An ex neighbour of mine had a nearly new one that he used to use spring-autum.for commutes into Birmingham, when he was going to be based in the office for a few weeks at a time.

You might really enjoy the new sensation of scraping the pegs and showering the road in sparks (for a week ) Laughing
