Hunger games: Mockingjay Part 2 4.5/10 - decided to put this franchise to bed, decided it didn't deserve a 2nd, 3rd or 4th film, decided I had wasted my time watching this Sad

Deepwater Horizon 6/10 - Randy from My Name Is Earl strikes again! Why do they keep on giving him safety critical jobs, he's caused a runaway train and now an oil rig explosion Thinking

In all seriousness it was a pretty good film, the only issue I had with it was the propaganda undertones. A BP executive staring at an American flag in front of a burning oil rig... you could be a bit more subtle Smile

The Hateful Eight - 7/10

Was loving it, not knowing who was dodgy and who wasn't, just watching the characters play out.

Then Tarrentino comes in and does his plot explanation thing and I didn't like that, thought the movie came off the tracks at that point.

Cloud Atlas 7/10

Convoluted mega-epic sci-fi/period/investigative/comedy/apocalyptic drama. Six separate, yet interlinked stories spanning several hundred years.

Anyone who watches it without a break/nodding off should get an award.

We had a three hour interval at 1h 35m which made it manageable cuz it's 2h 45m bottom-numbingly long.

Edit: Impressive adaptation of an "impossible to film" book.

Brotherhood: 6/10

Not as good as the ones before it.

Too much focus on the fact that the protagonist was older and out of touch. Didn't seem realistic to me.

Also the two main bad guys were chosen terribly. Posh boy who doesn't sound scary at all, and a racist knobhead from Essex nickamed the 'Daley Male' in a terrible attempt at portraying Britain's racist whiteys.

The previous two films showed an interesting dark and gritty side to London life, whereas this one made it look boring and, I dunno, 'safe'. Maybe Noel Clarke really is out of touch now.

Collide - 6.5/10

Two heavy weights and a future heavy weight actor (Hault) in quite a good film, just wasn't brilliant.

Reminded me a lot of Lucky Number Slevin, which is a fucking superb film but this fell flat of using Hopkins and Kingsley to their fullest potential.

Arrival - a solid 9/10

Proper decent grown up sci-fi.

Loved it.

Hacksaw Ridge 7/10, good solid war-movie with an angle.

Cockneys vs Zombies 4/10

Luv a duck, another British film that can't decide what it's trying to be, but knows it needs to get a red bus in there somehow.

RADA toffs putting on their best Bob 'Oskins, a flat script, TV cinematography (medium shot, medium shot... you know, I feel this really needs like another medium shot), lazy editing and use of shots that should have been cut, and clownishly poor CGI, real Snapchat Filter stuff. Shaun of the Deader this is not.

The cast can't rise above it, and it's sad that this is Richard Briers' last screen role.

Worth watching only for circa 2012 Michelle Ryan's nice handful of ovens and a bedroom you could chew on all day. Georgia King does a decent turn as Sloane Ranger too. The rest of the cast is forgettable.

The Rezort 5/10

Or in my head, JuraZic Park. A little better, up to decent SyFy channel standards. Scott growls out his half a dozen lines in best generic 'Murcaville, Jessica De Gouw is a passable if fading English rode (from Perth, Australia, naturally), it's watchable enough.

Don't expect anything new or surprising, even the surprise bit. The mandatory island computer geek wears a flowery shirt, is pretty much all you need to know on that score.

But it's shot well enough, nobody bumps into the furniture, there's a kersplosion, running, bang-bang, pathos, sudden but inevitable betrayal. Credit for effort.

Sausage Party - 6.5/10

The narrative is that of a children's movie, with all the same sorts of scenes and events throughout. However it's all adult humour. "Great!" you may say, but it really isn't, because the narrative is that of a children's movie.

Star Trek Beyond - 5/10

Feature length version of a typical American sci-fi TV series, complete with cardboard acting and Americans in alien outfits acting and speaking like Americans.

Sausage Party - 4/10

Some say it's like South park, no it's not, others would imply it's the best film of the year, I doubt that. All I know is, Seth Rogen is not as funny/entertaining as he used to be.

Arrival 4/10 - sat down to watch a sci-fi film and it turned into some soppy bollocks. The idea was alright but it was far too slow. A bit like Interstellar (I didn't like that either).

Sorry yet another one against Arrival..... I thought it was boring as fuck and switched it off (probably before all the "proper decent grown up sci-fi" stuff)

Anyway, I watched Hacksaw Ridge the other night and didn't think I would enjoy it that much as the only war movie I liked was Platoon, but I really enjoyed it and may have to watch it again soon. Seeing the old codgers at the end almost brought a tear to my eye..... almost

Hacksaw Ridge 8/10 from me

The Accountant A generous 4/10
Wasn't sure what to expect from this but it didn't add up for me I'm afraid.

I thought Arrival was alright. Focused on the obstacles of two intelligent races trying to communicate for the first time, rather than the generic sci-fi alien invasion or Stars Wars sort of stuff.

Clearly not a huge budget however as it didn't really get very far and didn't show very much, even for a film that didn't really need to show much anyway.

6.5/10 and would watch again someday.
