The OA - Netflix

Batshit mental story / show which was kind of more like an 8 part film rather than a series but I enjoyed it. Not going to write anymore about it, watch the first episode and decide for yourself Laughing Thumbs Up

Did it over Xmas and was left wondering if they'd forgotten to screen the last two episodes.

No, I shan't, because you're being just as deliberately obscure and cute about it as Netflix are.

I'm 2 episodes into Ascension. Should I switch, and why?

I loathed Twin Peaks, if that helps.

There's a total of 4 hours IIRC.

Earth-objective or subjective shipboard?

The flaw for me is why none of a crew of bigbrains has figured out that at 1g, it would only take about 3.5 years (shipboard) to reach Proxima Centauri.

After 51 years shipboard (y still thrust ahead, full?), they'd be 200 billion light years from earth (over 14 times the observable size of the universe) and booking it so close to C as to require a whole new lexicon to describe just how nuked they'd be by the way-beyond-Gamma raining down from the 60-watt at the top of the bridge.

OTOH, Jacqueline Byers has a juicy little body, so, meh, I'll finish up.

It's just a soap opera in a different setting. A bit like whatever Smallville was.

It's not going to win show of the year... it's worth a watch though imo but honestly, watch EP1, make your mind up, it should either hook you or put you off after just that first ep.

Turned it off after 10 minutes, once boredom had set in!

I also really enjoyed Goliath on Amazon Prime. Billy Bob Thornton is excellent as usual Cool

Started watching Beyond on Netflix. 2 episodes in and so far so good,

Been watching Witches of East End with Fartface (my stepdaughter) and it seems full of nothing but sex. Kind of funny in places but more for girls than men.

A Town Called Eureka

I've been sitting on this one because it's not on Netflix or Amazon, so you'll have to find other methods. It's a trite and silly technobabble-of-the-week show, which would normally annoy me, but it's just so gosh darn well made by a talented crew and a cast of thoroughly likeable actors who are obviously having a great laugh. Colin Ferguson anchors the whole thing with a masterfully folksy performance of Sheriff Everyman, and Salli Richardson-Whitfield is almost scarily flawless - I think she actually gets younger over its run. It manages to be both (mostly) kiddy friendly, and to sneak bumsex jokes in by the back door. Nice.

Warehouse 13

Set in the same milieu as Eureka with a smattering of crossover, the premise is (implicitly) drawn from the final scene of Raiders of the Lost Ark. Top men - top men - shelf all the weird and dangerous artefacts from history. Very slightly darker than Eureka, but mostly rollicking Deus Ex Machina larks with an engaging cast who have great chemistry.

Neither are going to change your life, but I defy even the most cynical BCFer to actively dislike them. Good old fashioned frothy sci-fi fun.

Taboo - 8/10

Just started, BBC on Saturday nights @ 9pm. Tom Hardy, amongst many other Game of Thrones cast (forget their names), have only seen the first episode aired so far but I already know it's going to be brilliant.

Written with Peaky Blinders writers and co produced by Ridley Scott.

Watch here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b088rzbt/taboo-episode-1

Download and watched it when it first came out a few years ago and have just bought all 5 seasons on blu ray (got them for £17 brand new).

The best series I've watched imo.

Just started on season 3, which I'll continue when I've finished work later.

Enjoy. Thumbs Up

I think I'm the only person who doesn't like Breaking Bad Smile I watched the first 4 episodes ages ago and found it slow and kinda dark. Everyone says it gets better from season 2 onwards but meh...

I didn't watch it until last year, then decided to binge watch the entire thing in about a 6 weeks.

It is good, excellent even, maybe just not as incredible as everyone makes out.

I'm very glad that I watched it all the way through. I can't think of anything else that's as consistently well written, acted, and filmed, all the way to the end.

I didn't make it to the second season because it seemed to far-fetched - though I did think there's enough humour in it to leaven the darker aspects i.e. cancer.

We watched the 'Talking pillow' scene where he was refusing treatment and it really reminded us of when my
wifes mum and us had an almost identical exchange about her cancer. Also the scenes where he begun chemo
were very harrowing for my wife especially. It really upset her. Very well acted and shot. Extremely realistic.

Sneaky Pete - I'm on episode 8 and still can't make up my mind about it Neutral It has breaking bad Hal but he doesn't feature much. The series seems alright just a bit clumsy in places, and the twists aren't as dramatic as I think they want them to be.
