Congestion has begun to increase sharply again, and not just in central London but across the capital. Traffic has slowed down and road users are spending longer stuck in delays.

And it is not just because of CSH. You can read the full report here.

I used to wonder how so many people could afford the CC daily. Now I know, they don't.

And they're making heroic efforts to force people off of motorcycles and back into cars and overcrowded trains.

It does at least mention motorcycle a couple of times in passing, which is more than TfL tends to do.

Sadly, when asked what form of transport they'd switch to if road-use charging were introduced:

It's pretty telling that current car drivers would prefer pushbikes to real ones. As many as would prefer, I guess jetpacks and canoes. They can probably see which way road allocation is going.

Motorcycles/ists get 4 mentions

most positive

Road pricing may encourage firms to use vehicles more efficiently, or switch some deliveries to modes that cause less congestion, including rail, waterways, bicycles and motorcycles.

and there is a chart that says something like

Tube, Bus, Walk - yay

motorcycle - boo

It's likely that many of the respondents have only car licences - all options other than motorcycle can be accessed instantly with no further training or sunk costs. I would guess that many people see motorcycles as something other people do, because difficult/expensive/cold/tatoos/wheelies.

I wonder if the option was actually presented to the Londonistanis as "motorcycle" or as "motorcycle / scooter / moped".

One thing to bear in mind is that the pedalist lobby is pretty good at whipping up a frenzy among the lycropaths and getting them to respond to consultations. Although they even get whupped by walking in that one, so maybe not.

Can't see it making much difference TBH. The biggest factor affecting London traffic loads is education. All those schools and universities need feeding with a big spoon in terms of running resources. I worked at one big uni recently and I was staggered by the amount of deliveries they have during the day. When the Schools are shut, and even more when the universities close down, the traffic is a LOT lighter.

They've increased congestion (on main roads) by making every side road a oneway/no entry, all the under-utilised* cycling infrastructure, and even stupid stuff like stopping people from making left turns (as they can't be bothered to sequence traffic lights properly).

Nothing about making trains, tubes or buses cheap as chips.

50p a journey, ramp up the number of trains and buses Thumbs Up

Bit that made me laugh, deliveries to tube stations for pick up. OK, I'll pick up my 3 piece suite at Euston and carry it on my back to my house. Rolling Eyes

Anyway, we all know it's 50% about forcing people onto pushbikes and 50% revenue creation.

Something tells me tuk-tuks would be more popular and appropriate.

Interesting that so many would switch to walking. This suggests to me that a. Assume percentage of drivers are within walking distance.

Issue isn't cyclists, its lazy bastards using cars when not necessary
