Just bought this SV650s, was wanting a naked version but price was too good to knock back. Lower fairing is easy enough to remove but didn't look right with just that removed. How easy / hard is it to swap / change headlight and front end..? Any body done same or any ideas for parts, styling appreciated.
Cheers

It's a pain in the arse to make naked. Easier to put a gsxr front end on, but why? May as well buy a gsxr.

On a separate note, check the front plug isn't coroded to fuck like mine was causing it to run on one cylinder.

P.S looks nice OP, enjoy!

What do you mean "didn't look right"? That's how 90% of them came from the factory Laughing

Either buy a naked one or enjoy as is. It'll never be a streetfighter, it's a humdrum commuter twin.

A mate did an SV years ago with a 'busa headlight (just the headlight) fitted. It had other mods too but the naked headlight looked well on it.

I do like that...

OP, leave it as is, or sell and buy the less usable naked version. This has weather AND virginity protection all in 1 package.

What year is it?

The Curvy 99-02 bike they just swapped the bodywork between the two, but the later 03- pointy models they actually altered the frame geometry/wheelbase for the S and the N. To the point that the N top yoke won't fit with the S bottom yoke.

Obviously never seen a lightweight TT bike.

A hum drum commuter twin with huge potential, you must have meant to say.

Why bother? A standard TZ or RS250 is 90bhp and half the weight. Race rules can make something cool out of anything, but that doesn't mean you should.

Reality puts the 250s at mid 70's rear wheel at best unless you dump roughly the entire cost of the JHS 650 into tuning the 250 to get the same power as the SV, then rebuilding it at insane cost every few hours, the JHS prepped 650 makes over 100hp at the rear wheel. Weight around 160kgs wet for the JHS, yes, the 250 weighs around 105kg but lacks something very important compared to the JHS SV... A numberplate. Comparing a race bike to a road legal bike is somewhat pointless. Race rules maybe, but the ability to go out on a Sunday and rinse the shit out of a few superbikes is worth the hassle.

The two stroke race bikes are somewhat overrated, certainly HP figures get somewhat inflated when people get carried away. The reality is a stock 250 race bike will put out about 70hp at the rear wheel, needing a lot of expensive tuning to get anywhere near 90hp. Full, no costs spared GP250 race bikes used to dyno at 105-110 hp , but were built by men in sandals and socks that were not allowed to go outside, in dimly lit rooms with thick spectacles and financials that make the UK welfare budget look slightly tame.

Lol stop talking bollocks.

A good tuner can get 70ps from a road based 250 engine without too much hassle. Won't be long lived but still possible. Fucking hell my mate is doing a genuine 60 odd on his KR1S with an oil pump and alternator and standard pipes. All 250's from the first TZ V-Twins do about 90ps without the kit. A friend of mine raced one that was almost stock and had been clocked at 163mph at the NW200. You need a bit more than 70ps to crack 160....

No, they don't.

Find me a dyno sheet of a 'nearly stock' TZ making over 80 and I'll give you a cookie. Most make around 75 at the rear wheel. Pipes, head work etc. are all required to get one over 80hp. This is a dyno graph of one with custom heads, barrels, pipes, a later style ignition and considerable dyno setup time just making over 80 rear wheel.

Nice curve though!

Tadayuki okada's GP250 was known for making around 110-115 hp, that is about the limit and with full factory backing and budget. A top end of about 170mph. Your mates was somewhat tuned to be doing 163 on the NW course. Having spent many, many race meetings around the NGP250 boys in the paddock and knowing the championship winning bikes typically make around 90hp, I find gross claims of power somewhat laughable.

No reply?

Let me make it obvious, the lightweight TT lap record is 120.8 mph.

The 250 lap record is 118.29 mph.

The 650 is faster, and road legal.

Pure BHP top end doesn't tell the story on 2t vs 4t.

4t will have a wider spread of power, making it faster when the 2t is out the band. 4t also has engine braking while the 2t has to rely solely on the brakes to slow the bike.
