That'd be classed as a sting operation, surely. Shifty

Or, might these vans have their own Twitter accounts?

The minibus used locally to me is an 09 plate. Police are skint and won't replace a car now till it really dies. Plenty of '10 plates still about in full 24 hour service too.

ours all seem to be newer then three years now

its a 63 plated astra they park all over the place

That used to be the case here; replacement every three years or 100k. Just isn't happening now though. There's a few newer cars around (mostly Peugeots) but lots of knackered old Focuses with 160k on them. Those are the 12 plate ones on a response shift. Quite impressive to be fair given they're used 24 hours a day and often thrashed relentlessly.. There's a few older ones too, generally the ones from community shifts or departments that don't cover the same miles as a response shift. There's apparently zero budget in my local area for new cars this year. Don't see how it's sustainable.

On numerous occasions when visiting supermarkets I've heard 'alarms' going off from these vans, similar to the funky HGV left turn chat, that recite something like this:

"This vehicle is under attack! Please call 999!"

Yeah, not sure genpub gives a single fuck if Tesco lose tree fiddy.

Fairly sure 99.9% of 'set-offs' involve the driver forgetting to unlock the door before pulling the handle or something similarly daft.

On a similar theme, I stopped behind a van with a sign with something like:

This van is limited to:
50 on a single carriageway
60 on a dual carriageway
70 on a motorway

then something about safety being a big deal to the company

It got me thinking.... have they now linked the limiters to GPS? Otherwise how does the limiter know what kind of road it's on?

Semi off topic but might be interesting anyway;

Some luxury cars can do this now. Tesla Model S reads speed limit sign and/or interprets number of lanes to come up with a speed limit for the autopilot feature.

Probably a way off getting into a standard delivery van but all you need is a camera and a computer so once R&D is paid off it'll probably be all over

More likely the van has a gps tracker on it which is monitored and any speeding is reported to the company who then reprimand the employee. Company I used to work for started fitting these trackers to ensure that they could prove vans were 100% work use to the HMRC. Added benefit was ensuring the drivers weren't ragging the arse off them.

Our work vans were also like this

GPS was also to show that drivers where not speeding or off skiving instead of working

I would expect so. My assorted sat navs have told me the speed limit for whatever road I'm on for the last 10 years.

That's a bit of a non-sequitur, Rhyno. I'm 99.9% certain that the reason the majority of our police force aren't armed isn't because we can't afford the guns.
