Having just got a helmet-cam, I suppose I'm now going to need to learn how to do some video editing: what software do people recommend? Don't want anything too fancy; mainly the ability to edit out 95% of the material I film, I guess...

The other thing is, how powerful a computer do I need to do this? Will my old desktop machine cope? What specifications do I look for in the PC, and what do I need?

This should be in geek zone, but I'll bite.

Vegas pro 13 is easy to get for free and is easy to use to edit videos.

To render 1080p at 60fps, or even 30fps without taking five billion years, you'll preferably have an intel i7 with 6 or 8 cores.

Fuck the GPU, my 980Ti does barely anything for rendering times. You can either go full money on the CPU, or get a 4 core i7 and a workstation card.

Presumably you're using windows.

Have a look at HitFilm Express - it's free and you can buy extra features if you want them. Massive plus is that it supports Mocha as an addon (£44 ish)

Windows movie maker Laughing You don't need any special hardware for simple editing.

Thanks for the feedback people. Sorry if I should have been in Geek Zone (I thought as this was for a helmet cam it was more relevant here than mixed in with Pokemon Go, bitcoins etc!)

Well, judging by the replies it looks like I'm screwed for now... my PC has an i3-530 processor @ 2.93GHz (2 cores I think?) and runs a 32-bit Windows (all the options above seem to have 64-bit in their system requirements).

Looks like this camera is going to have been one hell of an expensive purchase!

Vintage PC? Use Virtualdub. It will do everything and you can run it.

Most computers can edit 720p if not 1080p.
You can even do it on a smartphone app now.

Free Window Moviemaker is as easy as anything.
Free GoPro Studio is quite a step up but worth trying.

Adobe Premier Elements. I find it very intuitive to use, I really like it Thumbs Up.

GoPro Studio should come with a health warning.

I've mostly used GoPro's own. It's OK for basic stuff but it is very limited. Lately I've been using Cyberlink Power Director 14 and it's quite easy to use with lots of useful features.

Professional video editors seem to use Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere Pro, so either of the non-pro versions of those would be great I would have thought.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.
