Yes yes you can all have a laugh and tell me "Told Ya so"
So I bought a Chinese bike late last year.
It was a second hand Honley RX3 Adventurer .
After some tlc and a bit of a tidy up including an oil change, it wasn't to bad.
After putting a few tanks of fresh fuel though it and taking the previous owner`s stupid extra wiring off it, it seems to run better and even tick over...sort of.
Anyhoo ,the problem is that I have a minor/intermittent electrical problem going to the rear light.
So I thinks to myself that as I want two new/better tyres, I`ll take it to a dealer and get them to fit new tyres and sort out the electrical problem at the same time.
Took it to two dealers in my locale and neither of them was interested in taking my money?????
One dealer said automatically "nah mate we don't touch em"
Even though I have spent a good few pounds with them over the years and have had them do work on a variety of bikes in the past.
they just weren't interested?
Apparently they can afford to turn down business ie two tyres and some electrical work.
Thing is they have now lost more than that because I will go else where from now on.
Not much in the big scheme of things but if they keep on like that surely they will go bust?
What a poor situation when customer loyalty means F-all and dealers don't even try to help a customer in need
There, rant over, I`ll get off my hobbie-horse now ____________________ I am the sum total of my own existence, what went before makes me who I am now! |

Jesus, who do you think they are? Civil servants?
They can do what the fuck they want, they are a private business and if they don't want to touch your bike, they can do whatever they please.
Go out of business soon? Mate, they probably turn down 20 "potential jobs" like yours a week because they can and there's far more lucrative work for them to be doing which is just as common. |

It's like a lot of motorcycle mechanics wont touch scooters either.
Because they are invariably beyond fucked due to a combination of poor build quality and lack of routine maintainance, they've also already been fucked with and bodged about by their owner in an attempt to make them better/faster.
Then if you do manage to fix them, you either don't get paid or they're back a week later because something else has gone wrong and they're blaming it on you.
So I can fully understand a motorcycle mechanic not touching most Chinese bikes with a bargepole. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

I had 3 bike places refuse to change the tyres on my scoot, that was regardless of whether they sold me the tyres or not.
Found a small indy place that needs the work so it will be going there, better yet they are happy for me to supply the tyres.
That sort of thing bugs me as well. Thankfully there's plenty of folk who need the dough. Vaguely related, my local garage that
handled my MOTs and maintenance on 4 wheeled stuff has gone out of business, but I doubt it was because he turned work away.
Everyone wants top drawer work for bottom drawer money these days, that's probably got more to do with it.
Pain in the arse though, the Sprinter is due an MOT and he may have looked at it more sympathetically than a
new place will. We'll see... ____________________ Currently enjoying products from Ford, Mazda and Yamaha

It wouldn't surprise me if your intermittent rear light was the result of a simple loose connection.
Regarding your tyres, I would suggest buying new ones and taking your wheels, minus bike, and the new tyres to a (any) bike garage. That way, you'll save money on labour and they won't turn the work down.
Tbh, I can see their point in refusing the work on that bike. Bike garages do most jobs with power tools such as impact drivers. No worries with Japanese bikes or BMWs, etc. It isn't even necessary to torque most things on those bikes to Haynes spec. But on a Chinese bike, assembled out of the crate or not, it's a mixed bag. For example, for all they know, your axle is already cracked, either from incorrect assembly or really poor quality manufacture. They put their tools on it, it smashes, and you can legitimately claim you rode a working bike into their premises and accuse them of breaking it. Then they're liable to you to not only fix the bike but pay for any lost earnings, etc. Or suppose it all goes to plan, they fix it, you go and ride it and it turns out something aluminium around the wheel is cracked, and it shears and you have a nasty accident. Only 2 people touched that component: the assembler and the garage. Then you could legitimately claim that even if the assembler in China were to blame, a competent garage would have examined that component while putting your new tyres back on, and that therefore the garage is liable. So it's all a lot of risk for a business. ____________________ Safety in numbers |

I mean if a firm is happy to strip and repair £500 knackered Chinese scooters, and stone age Harley Davidson's, do you really want them doing a belt change and setting the valve clearances on your Ducati 998? |
Last month I went down to my local workshop that I've used for the last seven years or so, wanting a full service including belts/valves. Usually I'd go main dealer but they're 50 miles away and it's generally a ball-ache to sort out.
The owner looked at me and said;
"My lads can do it, but it's not something we're particularly familiar with, and the extra time they'd take checking everything would probably bump the price up to dealer costs anyway."
He then proceeded to give me a list of other shops that worked on desmo engines, pointing out which he thought was the best.
I thanked him for his honesty and advice, and he told me:
"Everything is reputation in this game, and we don't take on work we're not 100% happy we can do properly. Come back when you need tyres and other bits though".
And in fairness to him, I will. ____________________ Ducati M695 |
