A proper therm-a-rest or be cold and uncomfortable.
Mrs stinkwheel had tried various brands. All have had punctures within a couple of trips, none of which have proved to be repairable.
I've had a backpacker thermarest for 17 years now, still works. Been repaired once, the repair is almost as old as the matress. It no longer self-inflates, you need to top it up a fair bit by mouth. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. Cotswold have Mountain Equipment mats at a very good price.
Link
2.5/3.8/5.0 CM thickness, depending on cost/weight desires.
Picked up a 3.8 as i was fed up of using my short (3/4) length thermarest which has served me well for 12 years. Not used outside the living room yet... ____________________ "because one stroke isnt enough and four strokes waste two" |

In my experience, the best you can get is well worth the money. You're no good if you haven't slept properly.
I have dodgy back and now in old age, hips too. The biggest piece of my kit is a thick 100mm self inflating thingy.
You dont need full length but thickness is important for me ... sounds like something my gf would say ____________________ www.perthtoperu.com | www.perthtoperth.com |

I've got a pair of Therm-a-Rests that the missus and I bought over 15 years ago and still going strong. They pack up super small and light, but seem less comfortable in my more mature years than they used to.
For family camping we got one of the Vango 7.5 doubles and its genuinely the best sleep in a tent I've ever had..... but that comes with a price. The mat is big and heavy. And I don't know about the single, but the double takes a lot of effort and swearing to roll up.
What would I put on the bike? The Term-a-Rest purely for packed size and ease of use. In the car its no contest. Vango everytime. ____________________ 2007 CBF1000-ABS - Commuter heaven | 1994 CBR600FR - Awaiting defibrillation |
