Someone responded to my project wanted thread offering a ZX6R he had that had stood for 18 months. I was after a more upright type bike as already have a very nice ZX6R but at the price he wanted I decided to take a look.
Agreed to buy it about 2 minutes after I saw it.
Engine turns over nicely although wont start yet. Suspect just a carb clean required. Everything else just needs a good clean.
Plan to replace rear shock and add some slightly raised bars to make it more comfortable. Fairing will need modifying slightly to accommodate the bars but not a problem as will give it a full respray.
Only issue I cant find atm is slight pitting on one fork but its not deep and above the working range of the strut.
First job will be strip carbs and get her running.
After that a full strip, clean, new bearings etc.
Not bad for £250

Thanks.
The red (G2) is beautiful. Looks like it just left the showroom. Huge number of upgrades and only 16K on the clock. The problem with it? I've run out if things to tinker with. The green (F2) will provide hours of spannering entertainment Very Happy
Also means my lad can join me on track days now!

That's a proper billy bargain even as a non-runner. IT'll make a cracking bike when it's done.

Iirc, this ZX6R version had a weak frame prone to cracking. That's why I never got one. Might be just an urban legend, but it still put me off and got a ZX7R instead. Thinking

Not something I've heard heard but will keep in mind. About half the bike has been stripped so far. Once It's down to bare frame I'm going to have all the paint removed then have it powder coated so good opportunity to give the frame a good check over.

Aye but bikes are my toys. Don't need them to be practical or serve any other purpose other than make me smile!
Looks even more a project now it's sat next to the G2. F2 is filthy with a lot of corrosion on electrical contacts and key components. The G2 really is spotless with everything working 100%. You could eat yer dinner off it but then you'd have to clean the bike again.
The F2 will match once finished as I don't want it to spend it's time feeling inferior and unloved.
F2 will also be my main track bike unless my lad joins me on a track day then he will use the F2 and I will bimble around carefully on the G2

Replacement list so far......
New items
Rear shock
1 front fork stanchion
Throttle, brake and clutch cables
Rear hugger
Exhaust can
Screen (don't like all black ones)
Clutch/brake levers
Grips
Bolt set
Relays
Complet set coolant pipes
Indicators
Oil
Filters
Coolant
All bearings (stock, wheels, swing arm)
Raised clip-ons 3" (son will manufacture)
Dynajet kit (possibly to match exhaust)

Rebuild
Forks
Brake calipers front and rear
Clutch
Valve shims

Powder coat
Frame
Wheels
Engine casings

Just a few bits to be getting on with.
