I get to listen to loads of music on Youtube at work, it's caused me to go listening in some odd directions.

I found a band from Japan called P-Model, comparing bands is a bit naff but it describes them well enough, they're like a Japanese Buzzcocks from about the same time -

I've decided to really get down to business with playing Rory Gallagher stuff, so I've been listening to all that, and actually got myself a guitar tuition DVD (download):

https://www.licklibrary.com/store/mike-casswell/26534/learn-to-play-rory-gallagher-2-dvd-set

It's easy to follow and learn from. It's not that I can't work out the rhythm parts, I don't have a problem with that. Normally, I don't slavishly copy solos, but just try to capture the feel, but with Rory, he used stuff that steps outside of the normal scales and licks that I'm familiar with, and I want to pick up on some of that.

I'm never going to be a rock guitar God - can't do all the really fast 'widdly widdly' stuff. But guys like Rory I can handle, and help to throw a more rock theme into my blues playing.

It has also got me more interested in learning to play slide in standard tuning. Tbh, I'm learning that you really don't need open tunings for slide at all. A helpful video in this regard is this:

Good choice sir! Good choice.

I was wholly proud when I'd learned how to do a decent version of killing in the name on my strat.

Happy to say I witnessed these.

The reunion didn't last but it did produce an excellent comeback album and this absolutely fantastic gig.

Since -matt- and I went to the Southampton punk festival at the weekend, I've been on a bit of a Peter And The Test Tube Babies hype. Remind me a bit of The Toy Dolls. Thumbs Up
