Was gonna work on it at the weekend, I got all ready to drag it out but it was snowing. Decided to stay in in the warm. Laughing I might had another look Saturday, weather and enthusiasm dependent.

Bulbs finally arrived!

My idea worked the Indicators are great now.
https://youtu.be/bF9lMf8RTvQ

Annoyingly the flasher has a warning noise. I can't see a way to mod the existing flasher so I'll have see about getting a new one. The horn appears to have died. I have ordered a new one. No great loss it was pretty rough looking.

I kicked the bike over and gave it a bit of a rev and noticed a pretty sizable dump of oil out of the exhaust drain.
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v295/chris-red/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_20170218_114441_zps0ekulsuo.jpg

As I have to remove the exhaust anyway to get to stand I thought I might as well de sludge it, a trip to the chemists for some caustic soda later...

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v295/chris-red/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_20170218_151155_zpscsyy4ieh.jpg

Exhaust is filled with a mix of water and caustic soda and the bin just with water. I left this for a few hours, then rinsed it. A decent amount of sludge and lumps of carbon came out.

Next I stripped the main stand, you can see how bad the slack is here!

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v295/chris-red/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_20170218_150957_zpsdqxb33uf.jpg

Bodgetastic.

Much better as you can see.

Also cleaned up the stand/brake/arm/rod as they were fairly tatty. They'll get a few coats of Hammerite later.

Just looked at the video of the indicators.
They seemed a bit quick?, just a thought.

Slightly maybe, however 10 times better than how they were before.

I reckon they flashed once every 2-3 seconds before.

I watched it too. 102 flashes/min. Should be between 60 and 120fpm for the MOT so all gravy.

I really like that plumbing olive bodge. Thumbs Up

Now. Next thing to do is find a way to prevent the pin rotating in the lugs and wearing your olives, you really want it so the stand has to pivot on the (greased) pin.

Not sure how the pin's retained. If it's a split pin, use a bit of stiff wire (bicycle spoke is great) instead and twist/hook the long end round something. The lugs the stand return spring hooks over are usually good. If it's circlips, might even be worth drilling the pin and lockwiring it.

Did it on my enfield, they're really prone to the same problem. I did the spoke trick on mine and while I've just had to replace the stand, it's because it started to buckle, the holes in the frame are still nicely circular.

I'm not sure I have enough room to drill a hole as the circlip is in the way. I might see about drilling the shaft the other end and using a small pin to lock it.

I came to start working on this today and was greeted buy FUCK loads of oil.

This is after a clean up.

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v295/chris-red/IMG_20170225_094518_zps2xqfm9kb.jpg

After a bike of investigation it seemed to be coming from the alternator casing. I was confused by this as there shouldn't be any oil in there!

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v295/chris-red/IMG_20170225_094539_zpspuitjehv.jpg

I started removing the casing and was briefly stopped by a striped bolt. However using my never fail method it was removed in seconds.

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v295/chris-red/IMG_20170225_095131_zps7hntjrq4.jpg

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v295/chris-red/IMG_20170225_095159_zpsn63wdcsh.jpg

It looked a bit sludgey behind the casing.

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v295/chris-red/IMG_20170225_101409_zpspcv1cmuy.jpg

I noticed the sprocket was a bit worn, as I wanted to remove it to check the output shaft seal and I had a a spare brand new chain from when I bought the bike (12 years ago!) I decided to replaced the set JT Front and Rear Sprocket £15 delivered! Probably the cheapest C&S I've ever done.

My impact driver wouldn't touch it So I got to use my BFB for the first time Very Happy

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v295/chris-red/IMG_20170225_113632_zps56zzwoqd.jpg

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v295/chris-red/IMG_20170225_113656_zpsrq8kxerz.jpg

Pissed it Laughing

I cleaned up the area and couldn't see anywhere the oil was leaking from I checked the oil and it was bang on Confused the sheer volume it dropped it should be low.

When I filled it up I just lobbed in 700ml which is what the manual said. I didn't actually check the level, I am assuming it was some kind of overflow.

I'll leave the cover off for a while and try to track it.

On a plus note my new horn arrived and it unintentionally matches the bike!

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v295/chris-red/IMG_20170225_105849_zpsmx1rkw0k.jpg

Pu the freshly painted stand and brake lever on too.

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v295/chris-red/IMG_20170225_113600_zpsu4rfwpcf.jpg

Also I didn't mention or photograph. After the last stint the join in the exhaust was wobbly, without any real effort I managed to pull the front section off. I need to remove the castle nut from the back section, but it is seized solid. I took to my dad's to use the vice but long short should I haven't done it yet.I hope to do it during the week.

Are you running it on pre-mix or separate via the oil pump?
Could there be a leak to do with this?

Still a cool thread Thumbs Up

Wrong side for 2T leak. It's probably an oil seal or cracked neutral sender.

Had a bit more time to fiddle Yesterday I'm adjusting to working on a patio, I bought this for £30 on eBay and I'm chuffed with it it does make things easier.

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v295/chris-red/IMG_20170408_094546_zpsa5skfr4d.jpg

I was hoping to get the thing finished but was thwarted by a sprocket carrier bearing that was knackered.

I need the rear wheel in to put the new chain on to tighten the front sprocket to put the side engine casing together. I could get round it but I couldn't be arsed buggering about I'm not in a rush so I'll wait new bearing has been ordered anyway.

The rear brake was pretty dirty and had some corrosion on the drum so that might be why it was a bit grabby it got a thorough clean.

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v295/chris-red/IMG_20170408_094554_zpsbkjwkmkb.jpg

The sprocket carrier was equally as filthy.

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v295/chris-red/IMG_20170408_094602_zpsu5t2pmqr.jpg

I also got to use my house warning present from my dad for the first time...

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v295/chris-red/IMG_20170408_095405_zpsd8kghx4n.jpg

Not the spindle, it was fucker to get out, it wasn't far off seizing it was bone dry.

The rim cleaned up well, and you can see several marks of a quality tyre Laughing

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v295/chris-red/IMG_20170408_101107_zpshgcpilub.jpg

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v295/chris-red/IMG_20170408_100335_zps2el1ooqg.jpg

I got to use my* new very expensive professional caliper for the first time to measure the bearing.

*I found it when we moved, I asked my missus about it she said I "My dad got it from work for me to borrow when I was doing my dissertation(on teeth)" Do you want it? I asked, "Nah you can have it" I looked it up they are like £120 new. Laughing

I always wondered now my dad ended up with so money high end tools considering he is tight as a ducks arse, I guess you just acquire them, I got this and I was given a Fluke meter That is about £300 worth recently!

I have some more photos and a video but I'm using my phone to watch the GP ATM I'll upload them later

Lots of heat directly on the castle nut. If it doesn't loosen it, you might get some flame-organ action anyway.

I forgot to mention i had a good go at this a week or 2 back, plenty of plusgas and heat it didn't budge the best thing i could find to turn it was a file it is about 18" long and about 1/4 thick. I put it between the crenallations of the nut and put a decent amount of force through it. It didn't budge and I could feel the file starting to flex so I gave up. The plan was to cut the nut off i had a replacement from the job lot of spares I bought. I think I paid £20 for the lot and the nut is £20 new so it paid for itself! I ordered so 1mm cutting discs for the grinder to do the job but hadn't had a chance to get back to it untill Tuesday.

Long story short, my mate had to drop a ladder he borrowed from my dad (it was actually his blow torch i borrowed too) I said I was going anyway so he came with. I told him what I was gonna do and he asked if I was sure it wouldn't undo. Smugly I said "Be my guest", he is half the size of me so no chance it would budge. He put it in the vice picked up the same file as I had and tried to undo it... With minimal effort it slid off! It's a weird feeling being simultaneously annoyed and happy! I can only assume the plus gas had had more time to work. It's all back together now with fresh gaskets and plenty of copper grease.

I have a spare exhaust that is ratty I'm going to practice on it with my welder to see if I can use it to sort some of the holes. The one on the bike isn't bad but it has 5-6 holes that will need to be addressed. Exhausts for these in reasonable nick are rare. Unless you go for a spanny, but they cost about what it is worth, also the bike is for my missus who has never ridden before the last thing she needs is a sharp power band.
