I wasn't / am not. That's the blip in my biking history right there, that thing. Why I kept it so long I just don't know.

What did you dislike about the sprint, had thought of one of them but I prefer the bmw or vfr to it, at least on paper anyway.

These are horrendous first bike choices.

You'll either end up a straight line hero or implanted in some road furniture.

Heavy, crap panniers, underseat exhaust made it difficult to load luggage as there's no bungee hooks.

Brakes not that inspiring. Handling ok on wider sweeping roads but smaller twisty stuff it's not at the races.

Engine fantastic and I really miss that but I'd have it in a Speed Triple if I were to go back.

But more than anything it was just 'alright' - which can be somewhat boring.

There are very few modern bikes that are a bad choice.

I'd urge you to try a few before deciding.

You have to close your eyes and feel your way to it, then get on quickly before opening them. You can't see it when on board. Avoid reflections in shop windows.

I know it's not the recommended route and I wasn't serious about the zzr, in fairness even my instructor said they're not the best bikes to start on, but thought I'd be okay, some of the options mentioned on here have made me reconsider and I'm going to look at some of the adventure bikes as well now, appreciate the advice though.

mine is a lump.. takes a lot of effort and concentration to push it around corners at speed.. sublimely fast .. which could cause problems ..

mine is a tourer .. well that's what i use it for..

they are smoother with the ECU flashed & flies removed..

your probably better off with a 600cc bike Thumbs Up

It does sound like you want to go into hyper speed with your choices.

Do you have any busy roads on your commute because a big heavy lump isn't that great? It's fine for the M4(8) over the bridge and going distances quickly, they make sense.

But as a first bike, not so much. A 600 or something lighter and commuter friendly might be a better option.

<hypocrite> I did buy a Blackbird after riding for 6 months, but I don't commute. </hypocrite>

I agree with The direction Stinkwheel is saying, but I'd take an MT-09 Tracer before a Tiger.

These adventure bikes are definitely a logical choice and would be good for filtering but I'm still drawn to the k1300, I've got no issue going bigger than a 600cc although the bikes I'm looking at are a big step up and I know I'd have to take it easy to start, I'm definitely going to take a look at a multistrada although I don't know what ducati reliability is like. I'm going to just have to try and get some test rides or at least sit on a few to see how they feel.

Thanks for that. That's a multistrada off the list

Laughing it's hard isn't it. This buying lark. To be fair most bikes have their issues. It's how they're dealt with by the dealer and or warranty that counts for me.

You may find it difficult to get a test ride with a new licence. So, go to shops, sit on bikes and see if they fit. If they do, ask for a go. If computer says no, ring around and find a dealer that says yes.
Maybe, you have to travel a bit, who cares if you get the right bike. A couple of hundred quid in fuel could save 10x as much when you hate the bike!

Hey Dave, Im 6,7 too
these are my bikes
-BMW gs1200
-Honda CBR 600 RR
If you want to travel in a comfort way, go with the GS 1200. It is smooth as silk, plenty of power and you have a big seat. Very comfortable. Not extremely fast but very nice power.
If you want your veins and hart pumping all the way to work and you don't mind if you get your wrists and neck ache a little bit go for a sportbike. Around 100/120hp is just fine for a starter.
