I'm disappointed to learn of another British company ceasing trading. I personally have had a few of MOTAD's Venom exhausts and have been pleased with their products.
Sign of the times hey.

With anti-tamper rules, I'd imagine being in the business of supplying off the shelf aftermarket motorcycle exhausts is going to become increasingly difficult to turn a profit from. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. To the best of my knowledge, we haven't bothered making it an offence - a criminal offence, FFS - to modify A1 and A2 bikes, as we were supposed to do.
There's also (again, AFAICT) no diktat mandating the form of anti-tamper. I doubt if anyone has really bothered implementing the required Nanny Chip that's supposed to detect it and bawww.
The Hyosung 125 I got stuck into had what appeared to be hardened rivets holding the end can on that took a load of drilling, but nothing beyond that.
So in principle, yes, in practice, not yet. If I were guessing, I'd say this is down to eBay, sort by price. There's a powerful lot of East Elbonians selling end cans (#BrexitThread) or UK resellers of Chinese tin foil. Heck, I've just bought one for £15.20, delivered. My bad. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Well that's crap news.
TBH I was only looking the other at pipes for my wife's bike, and couldn't get over the current prices on their website. Was comparing a FZS600 full venom system I bought from them in Nov 2013 for just under £240, but is now listed at £400! Has price of steel really gone up that much in 2 years?! ____________________ Beginner Biker Adventures Blog

Materials are up, rates are up, wages are up - potentially they just couldn't find or keep the staff. It's hella expensive to actually make things in the UK. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Rufous wrote: | Seems to be the 'in' thing to do at the moment, as I've also just bought a cheapo end can. I wonder if that's something that might be linked to the demise of Motad. I've given some thought to exhaust systems recently, and when it comes to the real vs perceived differences between end cans, a lot of it looks to me like voodoo science, or outright snake oil (e.g. when such cans follow balancer pipes and aren't the principle cause of pressure in the headers). We rarely get benchmarking charts for comparison, and the mathematical methods stay strictly behind the curtain. I think consumers may slowly be getting wind of this. Note the number of videos on Youtube demonstrating ripoff/fake 'Akrapovic' cans now, vs the slightly stupid Men and Motors review of end cans, made in the 1990s. Salesmans puff can only pump up a metal tube so far. The white-coat-clad all-British engineer/scientist trick seems to be failing. |
It's very true. When I was buying a front mount intercooler for my scoob I was looking around at different brands. All a FMIC is is metal pipework with a radiator core - nothing fancy, technical, high quality or particularly strong needed. You could get a top of the range RCM FMIC for around £1k. Or a Japspeed one for £200. You can guess what I bought. Exactly the same job done.
I feel its the same or at least similar for exhausts, Not particularly complicated engineering, so the difference between a China knockoff and an Akrapovic cant be too big. ____________________ Honda cg125 J reg peice of shit ---> CB650F ---> 2016 CBR600RR
