It's an option when setting up the card machine (on the one system I've setup), so I'd assume it is on some, not on others.

Seems a bad idea to me, but there you go.

My terminal prints the full number and expiry date on my copy, asterisks on the customer copy, just need to peep the three digit code if i wanted to be dodgy (pinhole camera in the surface under the machine?).

The last time I had a fraud issue it was two travel companies and an insurance company. All stuff where you have to give your ID and address to book... The fraud dept at my bank couldn't find any evidence to point to who might have done it despite this.

I assumed it was done due to speed of refunds and 'Refund it to my other card M8' type requests... no idea.

Even if they did, they would not tell you. it would be reported onto the police.
Fair to say that flights you can see passenger names on a Visa system, but other stuff the only people who know are the companies taking the money.

I guess with ins they are hoping to argue with plod that they have a cert of ins.... Despite the system showing there is no ins..

There is a real wealth and breadth of experience and expertise on here. Which is why I suppose there are sections away from things bike related.

Indeed, as is the case with most specialist forums. People quickly get to know other individual posters, and who knows stuff, and whose opinion is valued and can be trusted about all sorts of matters; like chatting to your mates down the pub, innit?

+1
With me it was an airline too (I forget which one now) and FWIW, it was charged to a card which I keep exclusively for online transactions.

But they wouldn't tell you anyway; they never do. I'm sure that anything below a certain amount gets instantly written off anyway.

Many years ago somebody cleaned out my wife's current account - we knew exactly the individual who'd done it - she got reimbursed by the bank but neither they nor the police showed the slightest interest in pursuing the miscreant.

What on earth is the point of hiding the card number from the card owner? Who designed this?

It's because many people don't dispose of their receipts or keep them for their records.

Because people drop them or throw them away without destroying them. Same as people request receipts at atms and don't take them Rolling Eyes

Don't need to hand it over....

All your card no & exp are on retailers till roll. Thumbs Up

The three digit number on the back of the card, however, is not

Pinhole camera mounted below the terminal to see it when you put the card in.

Funny but many retailers will actually take a payment without it.... Just the same as some will let you process a card present payment without the PIN Twisted Evil

Have you checked to make sure that an Insurance policy hasn't "accidentally" renewed itself automatically & taken the full amount
