It's probably been said before but having just passed my Mod 1 last week, what worked for me was simply taking 20-30 seconds after each instruction, taking some deep breathes and just thinking about what I need to do and what I'd been taught to do and not to do on each manoeuvre.

Hope you nail it next time Thumbs Up

Well I've had another couple of lessons since my test failure and managed the slalom several times without a bother. I've even managed to get a cancellation for my next mod 1 which is now on March 8th. However, I fear I've already talked myself into another failure as my head if full of self doubt and negative thoughts.

I know I can do it easily, but when being watched by an examiner...

The best way to do it is to treat each move of the Mod 1 as a seperate test. Talk yourself through each one out loud ( it calms your breathing ) which calms your nerves.

Do the 'pilot' thing where you pre rehearse the moves, shoulder checks, then when it comes to doing it, it's clockwork.

Or just MTFU and get it over with - whichever works for you Thumbs Up

Well MTFU is about right and maybe is what I should do Laughing

Had another 2 hour lesson Sunday morning (this is costing me a fortune) and seemed to initially lose the ability to do a U turn ffs. First time practising on an actual road with actual kerbs (as opposed to between white lines) and of course I kept looking at the kerb for the first two or three. Big mistake as the bike really does go where you look. Got it sorted in the end though.

No more time on the big bike until the day of the test now.

Captain, I suspect you are doing what I was doing - Overthinking, you know you can perform all the maneuvers yet put a kerb where before was white paint and some trouble ensued, it's just a wide as before, you don't touch the white paint so why would you touch the kerb, you just thought too much. I reckon if you just chill, you will pass no problem, look forward to hearing that you are going on to Mod 2.

Cheers Johnny. Yes, you are right I do overthink everything and if you could pass mod 1 by watching youtube videos I'd be an expert by now Laughing

Hopefully I can relax and get through mod 1 then pass on the experience to others who are overly worrying about it like me.

Don't tell anyone when you're doing it.

Plan something big for the same day so that passing the test is just something to get out of the way.

Engage in penetrative intercourse. Arrive early and DVSA Derek may oblige.

I was near the test centre today so I decided to pull in and have a look. There was one doing their mod 1 so I went up the fence and looked into the compound. Those yellow slalom cones actually look miles apart.

Can anyone tell me what determines the circuit used during mod 1? The test centre at Gateshead has both left and right circuits permanently laid out. Is the circuit used determined by which parking bay you choose at the start?

Yeh they are always both laid out.

I was told the examiner simply choses one per test.

Ah cheers. I was hoping it would be down to which parking bay I chose.

I'm told that at our local test centre they pick one in the morning and then use the same one all day.

Probably varies from centre to centre.

In our "local" one (an hour away, but fun roads), you can use either. The right hand one meant you could ride straight into the slalom

Mod 2 cancelled yesterday due to strong winds (from the weather not me or the examiner).

Got a new date of 4th April. I'll get there eventually.

MOD2 passed this morning with no minors. It's a lot more relaxed than MOD1 in my opinion.

Happy days. Just need a bike now Laughing
