Chain lube and socks look ok. But the rest is a bit dear for Aldi stuff. ____________________ Currently enjoying products from Ford, Mazda and Yamaha

£90 / £70 for CE2 abrasion self-certified jacket / trousers is pretty good. You'll struggle to find any CE2 abrasion kit out there - it's usually just the armour inserts that are CE impact self-certified.
Likewise, the £50 jeans are CE1 abrasion self-certified. You need to go to over twice that price to get a branded equivalent.
I stress "self-certified" because I've yet to find a way to verify any of these claims. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Jacket looks well designed in the form of the waterproof zips on the front including the cover bit for the zip to go into further increasing waterproofness.
Chain related products are half the size of normal ones and I go through them fast enough. Wouldn't use WD40 chain lube again, once supply runs out, because just washes of like no ones business in the rain. Silkolene for me.
Tank bag looks cheap enough to take a chance on.
I've already got a collection of everything so won't be attending the annual fight. ____________________ The do it all, T̶h̶e̶ ̶b̶r̶o̶k̶e̶n̶ ̶o̶n̶e̶,̶ ̶T̶h̶e̶ ̶b̶i̶g̶ ̶l̶u̶m̶p̶,̶ ̶C̶h̶o̶n̶g̶ ̶N̶o̶o̶d̶l̶e̶ |

The merino mid-layers are good and have a nice long back. Got some when they were doing them for cycling.
£25 for a 100% merino, medium weight long-sleeve top is an utter bargain. A lightweight t-shirt will normally set you back £45-50. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

Kevlar is a trademark. Most "Kevlar" jeans probably aren't.
The important thing is that the Aldi £50 jeans are EN 13595 Level 1 (self) certified. This means that they're actually making a claim that they'll stand up in a slide. The majority of "kevlar" lined jeans make no such claim, particularly at that price point. If you see "CE certified" it almost inevitably only refers to the armour inserts, not to the fabric itself.
Note that the £40 jeans are "aramide" lined. That's the non-brand name for "kevlar" fabric, which is what you're going to get in most generic jeans. But they're not EN 13595, so the £50 ones are likely to be better in a spill, regardless of what's actually used in the construction of them.
tl;dr version - get the £50 ones. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

I checked out their jeans a while ago and they're indeed massive. There does seem to be a gap in the market for skinny guys, my K Jeans in the smallest size they do (32/31) are a bit big. |
