Why is the CCTV required? Has your (ex?) missus disputed the chain of events in any way?

yes and no...

she yelled at my solicitor down the phone saying i got out when the car was moving but then she admitted full liability to her insurers weeks ago but they are dragging their heels and want to interview her in person which i suspect is to say "are you sure he didnt throw himself under the car Wink Wink "

Easy to just do it. Sample letters here. Data Protection Act. The longer you leave it the more chance of it being overwritten/deleted

I called mine at 10 and 2 every day for 5 months. This was after 2.5 years though.

This. Just do what you can to oil the wheels. Yes, they probably should be pulling their weight a bit more, but ultimately do all you can to speed it up.

They are there to serve you, moan at them as much as you feel helps - I am currently in the Paddeh situation of contacting my sols several times a week But we are currently haggling damages.

Point being my claim is nearing the end so other sols not interested in taking over. With the potential value of your claim I'd dare say there'd be quite the queue of other companies willing to take over. New sols would pay off current ones costs up to point they take over.

call them pretty much every day/every other day for updates. if they tell you they'll have something in a week, call them in exactly a week asking where it is.

keep on them or nothing will happen.

found this out buying my 1st house. stupidly expected the solicitors to just get on with it until i got a call from the estate agents basically saying the guy i was buying from was threatening to cancel my offer as he'd had no movement on it in 2 weeks. i got his number and we both hassled our respective solicitors almost every day until they pulled their fingers out.

in one example my lot needed some planing information from his lot. his lot said it would take 3 weeks to collect. 3 weeks later his lot said they'd need another 2 weeks. during a conversation between me and him we were sure that planning info is available online. went online, 10mins later we had the information, i checked with mine and it was what they needed but legally it had to come from the other side so the guy got on the phone and went ballistic at them. 3+ wasted for no good reason whatsoever.

in short, if you don't hassle these people they'll simply sit on it and do nothing.

This. I think I got one letter a month making out they were doing something in the early stages.

Solicitors are experts at hiding behind procedural and legal mumbo-jumbo when explaining the lack of progress on a matter. Its how the majority of them justify their fees, as in reality unless a case is unusual and requires a view the actual 'work' involved is minimal in comparison with the fee. What you are paying for is peace of mind and somebody to sue if it all goes wrong...
