Hi,

The wife and her friend have just had someone pull out on them smashing the front end of the car in, it's fully comp

He drove off but they got the reg plate and witnesses

I've just checked the MID and it's not showing as insured.

fully comp can't claim from MIB can they?

If it's just been insured it could take a while to show up on MID.

True, but, given that he looked at them, then drove off, I'm not hopeful that he bought an insurance policy earlier today.

I've used an insurance comparison site to check what the make and model is, matches what they say it was.

sorry about being vague with the details, reg etc given to police, hopeful they might do something for a woman who's 39 weeks pregnant (wife's friend, not my wife)

no tax,

no mot

no insurance

the bastard.

V5 probably not even in his name

Update, police have caught the bastard, disqualified, drunk driver.

hopefully that makes it easy to get the damage sorted without loading friend's insurance for the next few years.

Not really. That'll be a civil suit against them, which they'll likely never pay even if you win.

The MIB uninsured driver scheme has a £300 excess.

Sorry to say, but it'll be easiest to claim on the fully comp and suck up the excess. You can chase Drunky McBanned for it, but I doubt you'll ever see a penny.

should claim off your own insurance, as a non fault claim. the insurance company should then recover their losses from him if hes convicted. Mib should pay your excess.

when my car was hit by a stolen car in 2012 that's how my claim went and I guess its fairly similar.

am I right in thinking MIB is only if you can't claim from anywhere else?
So if you're 3rd party you can claim, but if you're fully comp you're expected to claim from your own insurance?

The MIB website is taking ages to load and not getting very far

I don't know. I'm just using my experience from claiming from them.

If fully comp the whole point is they just pay to fix your vehicle ASAP apart from your agreed excess.
It's their job to try recover as much as possible from other party if they were to blame.

apparently the MIB will only pay out injury and excess

Wife's friend is a bit distracted at the moment, huffing and puffing, something about being in labour.

Yeah they will pay the excess and your insurance pay the rest so you are not out of pocket. the insurance co then chase the other party for payment if they can squeeze anything out of them.

ah, right.

the drunk cockwomble was 'of no fixed abode' apparently as of today he has an address starting with cell xxxx, HMP .... so shouldn't be too hard to find for the insurance monkeys.
