Spoken to patent attorney.

Need 2k-3k up front to file the patent before I can divulge anything related to the product anywhere.

Which means I cant do focus groups to assess whether there is a market...

Or ask anyone online what they think of it beforehand.

Ace.

This might take a while Sad

Someone who is telling you what you don't want to hear is typically looking out for your interests rather than theirs.

I agree with them - if you're planning for success, don't tell a soul until you've filed.

Do you need to protect the function rather than the design? Even the Adam Aaronses managed to register a design, and Apple bitch-slapped Samsung over rounded corners.

Agreed. Unfortunately that equals guesswork on whether it's worth it *sigh*

Look at the 'Trunki' case, where a British company lost against a copier: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-bristol-35762610

Or Apple, where they failed to protect their 'iPhone' trademark in China https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-36200481.

It is tough out there.

For low volumes of production, it might be better to contract batch prototypers, such as ProtoMold or Aark.

Had involvement with a company called 'CSD' who are manufactures of blowmoulding/injection machines.

Had a 4 cavity mould made and overall cost was cheaper but the quality wasn't there. Had to have parts of the mould re-made as the threads on the neck collars starting breaking off..... Had a local company make new neck collars and everything was okay.
