It just looks like I'm riding round with a broken light/bulb out, unless you are another biker who knows that only one side comes on and both for full beam.

Had a quick Google and search but couldn't find any solid options no what to do.

Anyone on here done a dual conversion or some other mod? Any info appreciated

Ash

Single light for dipped and both for main beam is common on a lot of bikes. A quick look at the connectors on the bulbs will tell you - if there is one less wire on one side then it's main beam only.

google zx6r dual headlight conversion, its pretty simple.

you will have to hack up the bulb holders so you can fit in the dual filament bulbs.

I wouldnt bother tho, after i crashed on a trackday and fubared my headlights i didnt bother doing it to the replacements.

Don't really understand the problem, if you're on the bike you can't see it anyway? And if someone 'helpfully tells you', you can tell them it's meant to be like that.

you will have to hack up the back of the bulb holders so you can fit in the dual filament bulbs.

Pretty sure your beam pattern will be all over the place if you do that.

Beam pattern was fine, it just wasn't really worth the effort, the only reason i did it was because people would flash me thinking i had a bulb out but it doesn't happen much these days.

One question though, do you have H4 bulbs in your headlight/s? Or just an H1 and H3 (or similar single filament bulbs)?

Also, cars flashing at you, are you sure they just don't run over bumps on the road, which would make it appear the lights are flashing?

H7 are the standard bulbs, You have to alter the wiring, add a relay, buy H4 bulbs and fittings and cut the metal on the H4 bulbs to fit in the headlight casing, you also have to snap out the plastic cover from the dipped side.
Its all easy stuff to do but takes a bit of time and money, as i said after i crashed and had to fit a 2nd hand replacement headlight assembly i didn't bother doing it again even though i had all the old connectors etc...

People definitely are flashing as they do it in the day when their lights aren't even on. This was several years ago now though and i don't get flashed hardly at all nowadays, i assume more people realise bikes are designed this way.

If you think about what you've asked, it's "is it ok to put 55w high beams in the faces of people who need to see where I am and where I'm going?"

I think you know the answer to that one! Laughing

I used to have a 100W 3000K (yellow) high beam bulb in the ZX7R. The song ''Here comes the sun'' sure would make a great theme song for the bike. Wink

That is a lot of work, is the bulb even positioned properly afterwards?

I once replaced an old ''Jawa'' type bulb with an H4, all it took to fit was to bend one bit on the headlight, the plug was the same. Long story short, it was crap. Thumbs Down
