Little update, the Highland Park 12 seems to have become a staple bottle - £25 when on offer seems a decent deal.
I also, bought a bottle of Bushmills 10 y.o which was very average although the last couple of glasses tasted much better than the first, perhaps being exposed to the air for a while in the bottle had an effect?
I've splashed out a bit - well, £40, I know that's not much in the whisky world, for this

Little bro got me into single malts about a year ago, lots of good info in this thread, cheers all
Mum's a big fan of Highland park but a bit too on the tcp side for me, I love the Ardbeg you poured down the sink! I suppose a lot of it is down to personal taste at the end of the day.
Not a big fan of most the heavily peated whisky I've had, but enjoy the Jura Superstition & Laphroaig.
Got through plenty bottles of the Aberlour 12 year double cask, on offer at Sainsbury's for £27 at the mo cheapest I've seen it since Xmas, one of my regulars, been eyeing up that unfiltered chill one you just got, let us know what you think of it!
Agree on the Bushmills 10, had a bottle last month was very average.
Bunnahabhain 12 year old is on offer at Waitrose for £28 worth a punt good kick to it.
Asda has the Jura's own 16 year old for £38 but had to visit two stores before finding the last one on the shelf, enjoyed every Islay whisky I've tried so far.
Put off trying the Suntory Yamazaki for ages because it's pricey for an unaged whisky, try the Distiller's reserve one in the brown box best price I've seen is £45 at the supermarkets but worth a try, not had anything else like it taste wise.
Recently tried the Oban 14 my bro got, will be the next bottle of whisky I'm purchasing when the current stock runs dry. It had an oily taste which I've heard people go on about but never really experienced for myself till this one, anyone able to recommend anything similar? |

After enjoying the other bottle of Aberlour and working a very long week this week I thought I'd buy another bottle, this time going for this

I've only had a little taster but first impressions are very good - it's quite pokey at 60.7% but a little splash of water mellows it out and changes the flavour completely. I'm not sure whether or not i prefer it neat or with water, I'll have to investigate more tonight |
