I walked to work today. People were surprised that I didn't have the bike, because most of the roads were clear, but the street outside my house was covered so I thought I'd give it a miss. It's only a 40min work anyway, and someone from work was passing in the car and gave us a lift some of the way anyway. Smile

I have only worked 2 days this week, it's just too dangerous where I live. Not only me, some of my fellow couriers are like me, they live in a bad area for snow so my courier firm are short of 4 riders ATM.

Wednesday night, no problem till I was a short distance from my house, the road was like an ice-rink.

I opted to leave the bike at home this morning as well since we had a fairly decent amount of snow on the ground and god knows how much ice hiding underneath it. So I bussed into college and was told our lecturer couldn't be arsed to come in today and we could all just go home again! Mad

Oh well, a day off's a day off. Very Happy Thumbs Up

Loads of little twitches and rear wheel slides during the last week or so.
I locked the front under breaking, early the other morning which nearly had me on my arse.

Roll on spring.

Luckily for us down 'ere in Somerset the snow hasn't been nearly as bad as that! In fact, where I've been it hasn't settled yet. Took the bus twice though, just because I don't feel like freezing my nips off on the half hour drive! Can anyone recommend some good gloves? And trousers? I bought the gloves when I bought my jacket (a Bering, that's fine), they were £30, full leather, waterproof (nearly), but when I ride for more than 20 minutes in cold weather my hands go numb!
I haven't even got any trousers yet, and I'm getting fed up of wet knees. Any recommendations?

Avoid using the brakes as much as possible!

Good luck Thumbs Up

I'm in Norfolk and the snow is pretty bad. Just got my NSR yesterday and spent the afternoon thrashing it down the really long country roads as it has been sat doing nothing for a while. Hoped to get out today but no luck. Damn this snow! Mad

You can buy some undergloves which are only a few quid and they seem to work really well. Well mine aren't strictly undergloves, just the insides of some other bike gloves which I cut out, but I've yet to get cold hands when wearing them.

I had a bit of a nightmare today - opened the front door to see a covering of snow and near blizzard. As I had 40 minutes to get round the North Circular in London, the car was not an option so against my better judgement got on the bike. I gingerly made my way to the main road - which was clear of snow. Having had the bike serviced on Wednesday having had a few misfiring problems I thought all would be fine....until I hit the first queue. The bike was misfiring, stalling, jerking, bad enough during a normal rush hour but in the snow, on a Friday - a major downer! I had to keep the revs up and whilst filtering, when you need the front brake - not easy. Anyway, I got it to Chiswick and drove straight to the garage. Looks like the coils have gone - another £80 plus VAT! Crying or Very sad
