Sure. The CBT validates your provisional entitlement to ride any bike that's age-appropriate. You can do it on a 50cc moped then go out and train on a Hayabusa when you hit 24.
The theory pass also lasts two years so you can get that out of the way good and early too. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Something else to bear in mind is that some schools will use 600cc+ bikes for both A and A2 training, restricted by techno-wizardry for A2 purposes.
So you might be able to do "A2" training while still 23 on the same bike that you can use to pass an "A" test on your 24th birthday. The jump in power from derestricting will be neither here nor there, you won't be using it on test anyway. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

The tests are the same regardless of what category of licence you go for that merely change the specs for the bike you have to use to take tests on.
If you have been pissing about on Learner Plate's for 18 months or more and haven't learned enough to pass tests by now, you probably dont deserve a licence......
Tests cost aprox £120 at last count; £30odd of which is the theory you will need to nail before you can do a course for A2 or unrestricted A, anyway......
Stop pissing about... go book a theory test.......
Next; you have a 125, use it! Once you have the theory in your pocket, book the Mod 1 for A1 licence on your 125... costs £15 and it's the best way to practice for it... if you fail, examiner will tell you what you done wrong... book and do over, it's cheaper than a lesson!
Then; with theory & Mod 1 for A1 in your pocket... finish the job... book a Mod 2... on your own 125........ all test asks of you is a safe legal ride accross town, an average 30minute commute along mixed roads, like you probably ride every day... without causing hazard or crashing whilst you are about it... if you cant do that now, on your 125... again, you probably dont deserve a licence.
Pass? You have a once and forever CBT that you never have to repeat; lets you carry pillions if you want, use motorways if you like, even go over-seas if it takes your fancy, AND (best of all!) ditch the effing Learner-Plates!!!!
And with a little effort shouldn't cost you any more than a repeat CBT to learn over how to suck eggs.
Better still... you'll be a qualified rider... you wont have to repeat CBT over or worry that it might expire whilst you are trying to get the big-boy licence via expensive DAS lessons.....
Better better still.... when you turn up to do DAS lessons, you are a qualified rider who'se been round the houses once and know the ropes; they shouldn't need to waste time tagging a CBT into your course, nor a 'conversion' CBT on a DAS bike... nor wasting more time teaching you stuff you should already know, as you would already be a proven qualified rider, and ALL you'd need to do on DAS is get the feel of a bigger heavier more powerful DAS bike and go re-do the tests on it....
You have six months until your current CBT runs out... remember bikes have no reverse gear... sod planning to go backwards re-doing the first lesson you alreeady done, go forewards, get a licence.... an A1 licence... its as little money as the repeat CBT, AND it's a head start towards teh RWYL 'A'... and given the tests are only 20 minutes for a Mod 1 and 45 min or so for a Mod 2, saves time, too! Especially as you can do it on the bike you already got.
Planning to repeat CBT is not a plan to get a full licence. Plan to get a full licence! An A1 one! THAT is what they gave you provisional entitlement for, to LEARN and practice for tests, not dodge the ruddy things, or put off and put of NOT taking them, pretending to be a learner.
If there is a test that's not worth a lot, it's actually the A2, that begs the same course as DAS for a RWYL 'A', but only gives you an inbetweenie entitlement for the cost and effort; and the only real merit of it is the accelerated access to RWYL 'A' after 2 years, if you have to wait that long to do it by being less than 22 when you pass it, which you are well passed.
Go do it old-skool on a 125, DIY for 'cheaps' which is what 125's are best at; and get a head start for RWYL'A', don't try sticking the bike in reverse and covering old ground! ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!
