I bought a couple of AOC 21.5 inch monitors, but having used them for a few weeks, I can't work on them for more than a couple of hours at a time. My eyes start feeling strained so I keep going back to my 13.3 inch laptop which doesn't give me any problems.

So I'm going to sell these two monitors and buy a bigger, single monitor (realised I don't need a dual monitor set up). Are there any specifications I need to look for to reduce the chance of me getting eye strain? Faster flicker rate etc?

Larger text, chances are you although the screens are bigger you'll have larger resolution and you are further away from them.

How's your colour temperature setting? Too much blue colour will cause eye strain, that's why when you set your monitor into ''game'' mode or ''read text'' mode, it reduces the blue colour.

I had a similar issue with my AOC's before I adjusted the settings. They were far brighter than they needed to be.

Having said that in the future I think I'm going to focus far more on getting decent kit that doesn't strain my eyes. A few hundred quid now is worth it to save my eyesight in the decades to come.

Good point. I'll bring them closer. Seems obvious now Laughing

I have a Datacolor Spyder colour calibrator so the colours should be fairly accurate.

I have my AOC's on the lowest brightness, but even then it doesn't go as low as I would like, especially at night time in a dark room.

And how would you know if a monitor is going to strain your eyes? I would do the same, I don't mind spending a few hundred quid more for something that will benefit me in the long run, especially when it comes to health, but how do you know if a monitor is 'eye friendly' or not?
