If by "we" you mean the French or the Germans (depending on how motorcycley you like your motorcycles), then you are correct.

I brought a brand new mutt and they leak fuel if you fill it up. I mean literally pour fuel all over the engine, over the air cylinder.. Very dangerous, terribly made, and mutt refuse to fix the issue.

Anyone else suffered with the same problem?

Where's it leaking from? When you say fill, are you filling to the very brim of the tank?

You can't fill the tank because of the leak. They have an overflow pipe that kicks in when the tank gets to about two thirds.. I'm told bikes typically have an overflow pipe which normally might displace petrol ( nowhere near the hot engine for obvious reasons) , but also only release a thimble size volume of petrol. Mutt's will create a pool of petrol at you feat if you try to fill the tank.

There is a new thread on this exact issue here:
https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=326161

I suspect it's an issue to do with the hipster offset filler cap on these bikes. With the bike upright, the filler neck lands up below the top of the tank. There is presumably an overflow pipe in the tank to prevent it being filled on the sidestand to the point it would spill out of the filler neck with the bike upright.

It's unlikely the overfill will kick in a 2/3 full, think you might be exaggerating a tad there, also, what do mean there's no way of telling that you're over filling the tank?? can you not see into the tank when you're filling it?

Also, if the fuel is coming out of the overflow pipe, that's not an MOT fail, and it's behaving exactly as it should, also I think to buy a new Triumph, you'll need more than a couple of grand more, oh, and have you got a full A license, if not that Triumph won't be much use, other than as an ornament..

Looking at the other thread, it appears you don't like the answers you've been given.

It's entirely possible that there is an issue with your, first and foremost check your overflow pipe, and where it's routed, obviously this won't stop fuel coming out when over filled, but, you can at least have some control as to where it disperses, however, in the meantime, I'd suggest you learn just how full you can fill the tank, before it overflows

For what it's worth. Triumphs also piss fuel out when overfilled.

My mate filled up his tiger sport the other day with the bike on the mainstand then wheeled it over to a cafe next to the filling station, parked it on the sidestand and went into the cafe.

I heard a trickling noise and there was fuel POURING out of the overflow hose onto the carpark. I'd estimate he'd lost the best part of a litre by the time I'd noticed and put it on the mainstand.

They are about £4000 now for a 250, worth considering.

For that dough and to scratch the 'quirky' bike itch it would have to be a Svartpilen or Vitpilen 401- Around £4500 almost new.
Could probably get a good brand new deal close to that with a big enough deposit. I've seriously considered one as a second bike.

The factory pictures are just a laugh, full of bearded hipsters putting together Chinese parts in some kind of warehouse. No doubt Honda uses angle grinders just like this on their production line Laughing

Not a bad price, but you are getting close to the price for a Royal Enfield there surely.
