Hi Guys my name is John and I'm new to this forum so forgive me if I'm in the wrong section here.

I was getting my bike ready for it's MOT today and somehow managed to drop the bike and the stem on the right hand side mirror snapped.

I will have to replace it but my question is will I need to remove the fairing to be able to undo and then fit a new mirror, or can it be done without removing the fairing.

Any info would be much appreciated.

Thanks

ps Has anyone got a mirror they want to sell??

You can replace the mirror without removing any fairing. In fact removing the mirrors is required to strip down all the plastics on the front, IIRC.

Mind you don't need mirrors for a motorcycle MOT. Mirrors aren't required at all, it's just much safer and more comfortable to have them.

They don't sell OEM mirrors in parts, you need to buy the whole thing including the base. I replaced mine with a set of aftermarket mirrors (cheaper, no other reason) and just took them apart and used the stock base without removing it from the bike.

If you're removing the base it can be done without removing the fairing but to be honest it's less awkward to take it off or at least loosen things to give it some play.

On the base of the mirror stem you'll see a round rubber pad. You can prise them off with a flathead screwdriver. When removed, you'll see an bolt/screw that can be undone with an Allen key. Remove that and the mirror will slide out from the base and you can slot the new one into it.

It's much easier and less hassle that way.

As already mentioned though, you have to buy the whole mirror, including the base part from Kawasaki if you want original ones.

When dismantling the base from the stem, be careful not to lose the washers as they’re likely to drop out and you'll need them.

The rubber pads should stick back on as long as you don't get any dirt on them.

Oh and make sure you tighten the Allen bolt up enough or the mirror will start swinging around while you're riding. Thumbs Up (don't ask me how I know that btw Embarassed )

New mirrors are around £45 each iirc. Have a scout around on ebay for a second hand one, you might get lucky.
