Anybody used a single blade "safety" razor before?

I use a variety of razors, mostly vintage stuff I've refurbed myself. If you're looking to pick up a cheap safety razor (and that name is a lie, you can still shred yourself Laughing) and experiment then THESE have a pretty good rep for the price. Pick up a bowl of shaving soap and a brush from a Sainsbury's or suchlike (about £6 in total) and burn through the blades it comes with while you get the hang of using it. Once you've done that and mastered the technique (it's not the same as scraping a cartridge razor down your face) then get something like THIS, a selection of 90 blades of varying types for £16. That'll not only last you a while it means you can play around with brands and work out what suits you, everyone has a different hair growth and skin texture so what works for me may not work for you.

Something I've decided on since starting to wet shave properly is that there is no such thing as a "one size fits all" shaving solution.

I watched this and instantly wanted one. Left hints all over the place, showed the video to the missus and she still got the wrong one,

Looks like a pearler though.

That might just be the best advert I've ever seen.

I've got an electric shaver and I still watched all 5 minutes off it.. Thinking

I know! Whoever came up with that concept deserved some form of award, that advert is strangely compelling.

From my personal experience, having been through like 5 of these shavers, your price point might be lacking if you want a shaver that can last a while.

I currently use a Panasonic Lv95 and love it, but that's a big higher than your budget. These guys suggest the Braun 3 series which I`ve never used but is right around your budget. I think it should be good enough to get you that close shave you want. The rest of those products are actually beastly if you're able to go up to like 70-80.

Edit: And btw, I love that Panasonic advert up there hahaha.

Welcome to the forum!

Although I have a tip; It's not usually worth replying to a thread that had its last response over 4 years ago! Thumbs Up

My earlier posts in this very old thread must be some of the first I ever made on this forum.

BCF has aged me cynically.

Laughing

It's been a long road. Student life over in 34 days, currently on an optimistic hunt for jobs/internships in China.

Face still hasn't had a full shave. Nearly did once when I set the shaver too short. China likes its babyfaces though so I might have to finally submit Crying or Very sad
