Afternoon.

So I've had my Street up for sale for a little while now at £3600, had no cash offers but have been offered a 2004 R1 in a straight swap.

Lad rode over on it today and gave it a look over, very tidy, 18k miles, Akra end cans and link pipes, steering damper etc problem is its Cat C from a few years ago (rear ended sub frame bent...fnar fnar..) all parts have been replaced but the Cat C marker stands.

You'd honestly never tell to look at the bike but I've just had a mate value it at £2500 tops whilst the owner is confident its equal value to my Street, way I figured (before finding this out) if I didn't gel with it could just sell on for similar money to the Triumph but now I'm a bit wary if I could be losing up to a grand through it or if I tried trading it in at a stealership getting my eyeballs took out.

Any words of advice appreciated Thumbs Up

If it wasn't Cat C, it would probably be worth the same.
I'd swerve it, I think your mate is right on the money there.

Here's one for £3,599 with less miles and that's not a write off. Thumbs Up

Okay lads cheers Thumbs Up think I'll pass shame I really liked it but I've already been offered 3k from a stealers for it certainly not keen on losing more £ especially for something I'm not particularly interested in.

Didn't chickenstrip recently sold his triple. He might have an idea of what the bike is worth.

I think Paddy might also be looking to shift his triple.

And you already have an offer from a dealer. Just offset that against the R1 and see if it is a good deal or not.

Both chickenstrip and me are underselling ours, his has sold. Mine is waiting to be sold because I'm nowhere close to it. Mine will go up for 2850 shortly and wouldn't trade for a cat c R1 at all.

Assuming it's been fixed (which it sounds like it has in this case), then deduct 25-30% from the going rate for an equivalent non-written off bike. If there's still damage (beyond wear and tear), then further deduct the cost of repair.

Definitely not worth the swap.

I had a similar experience 5-6 years ago when I'd all but shook on a straight trade with someone (my Falco for their ZX-12R). The deal stacked up reasonably equitably, until I did a last minute HPI text check and found out that it was a Cat C. Then it most definitely didn't stack up. The owner of the ZX-12R had told me that it was HPI clear, denied he knew about it when I confronted him with the report, and pretended it didn't matter. That was the end of that, and I ended up selling the Falco not long after for good money.

Be patient. It's a good time of year to sell.

I was just saying it as a reference point.

I don't think an older model R1 cat C as a swap for a triple is good value at all.

Oh, right, yours is the one that I've seen for sale on the internets. I'd wondered.

Give us enough information to give a meaningful opinion.

Well I've already contacted him and turned it down (he's still adamant his is worth 3 and a half which I'd say it was barring the cat c) but all sorted for the most part had no real idea of the value of the R1 other than a quick skim of adverts and factoring in the cat c so appreciate the advice Thumbs Up (though I will try an R1 one day Smile)

Paddy what's made you sell yours?

I sold mine too. I only bought it as it was a Winter bargain, to sell in Spring, and so that's what happened. Despite that, I had a good amount of use out of it, and I liked it very much more than I thought I might. A 765RS might be on the cards later in the year. Thumbs Up
