So I think these cameras only run to about turnoff for the Westway. From my observation I cant see any more into London, once you get on the flyover at Westway.

I think its the same on the way back. There are a couple of 30mph sighs as you start going west but no cameras till you descent the flyover past Westway.

Has anyone else observed the same?

Its a bugger that the rest of the wretched route has got cameras all the to the polish memorial.

The giveaway is the road markings. The first camera leaving London is on the back of the gantry towards the end of the 30mph zone.

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.5199586,-0.1737597,3a,75y,169.47h,108.38t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sxTb5PWwtavq52REXV8QsBw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

You’re then under average speed observation all the way until the last camera at Target Roundabout here:

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.5443642,-0.3820919,3a,75y,241.75h,98.88t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sZSYVQQP0DLr1peX-t2Mg3w!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

On the way into London the first camera is just before the Polish War Memorial after you pass Northolt airfield.

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.5479401,-0.4074483,3a,75y,62.13h,109.77t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sWz6OJMWXymDsBZh-p9YijA!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

Then the last camera is positioned as you come down off the Westway Flyover.

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.5200587,-0.1751163,3a,75y,50.84h,99.08t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sWBXgcBO-RInFHZDwU0ZlwQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

How all the sections in between these endpoints are strung together and calculated is anyone’s guess, but if you look hard you’ll find a camera on almost every exit and entry to the A40 between Polish War Memorial and Paddington.

Bugger so its starts pretty much as you leave Marylebone road. I didn't realize they were on the bridges, cheeky buggers.

Eastbound from the Marylebone Road is heading towards Euston in completely the opposite direction to the Westway. Do you mean heading Westbound as you leave the Marylebone Road and head towards the start of the flyover as you head out of London? If so the first camera isn’t until after the start of the 40mph limit so the 30mph section is only limited by your sense of right and wrong. But think of the kittens! Shocked

That’s a picture of the LED lamps to illuminate all the naughty speeders. The cameras themselves are painted yellow and you get a single camera to cover 2 lane sections and a pair of cameras to cover 3 lanes. Each camera can cover 2 lanes. I understand them to be Siemens SafeZone cameras.

oh right well mine was eastbound joining at Paddington and leaving onto the a40 continuing east.

I’m still confused. I’m not aware of a way you can join the A40 at Paddington and head East past any cameras. Do you mean West too? Heading into central London or out?

I don’t want to jinx myself, but I’ve been ok so far sticking to within 10mph of posted limits, but maybe making a bit of progress after being slowed by traffic, or where I anticipate there will be traffic. Like M.C says there’s normally a queue on the last bit of flyover heading into London so unless you're the kind of nutcase hero that filters above 40mph through stationary traffic that brings your average down.

Sorry i am a total tool, yes i meant westbound joining from Paddington, on reflection i think the giveaway would be the bright lights, but obviously in the summer they're not on in the evening due to daylight.

I got two sequential ones in the end. And the reason i am now looking at a thread from last year is because i think i might get another one from coming off the northolt aerodrome and straight into the 50mph thinking it was a 60mph (i don't usually come into London on this route). I am pretty sure a car was doing the same as me, and probably averaged just under 60 for the first stretch before i realised, wonder what the tolerances are - and hope my speedo is off.

So after these cameras going live nearly 4 years ago, and me using the road on a daily basis, I've finally got a NIP.

Doing 50mph in a 40 zone going Eastbound between Acton and the Westway.

Does this mean they've actually only just gone live last week? Will I have another NIP in the post for every day since last Wednesday? Shocked Embarassed

We'll see.

I wonder about these daily....I used to stick right on to 30 in the beginning of the flyover in Marylbone (which is almost impossible as most ppl gun it and I have had ppl overtake Very close), then 40 till I left for the A312...but most of the time everyone's doing 50 or higher (traffic allowing, so I just go with the flow (usually 45, never above 50).

On the way in, I see most "abuse" the average speed limit due to the traffic on the end of the flyover, which makes up for going 50 vs 40, but I have seen some bikes go incredibly fast, so they either did good math or idk.

The A40 average speed cameras between Northolt and Paddington are definitely live and clicking (see what I did there?)

I know people who have received notices of intended prosecution in the last few weeks and when I went into London last week it was amazing how everyone was obeying the limit. That never used to be the case. I know I continued to push my luck, after I got caught in 2019, without any further tickets, but I think it's too risky now. There always used to be someone going faster than me, but not now.

With the elevated section set to 30mph and the pop-up cycle lanes around Euston that journey has taken a significant knock to the fun factor. Sad

Indeed, I had to go in last week, was D:
30 on the flyover, might as well drive backwards.

Seen loads of bikes go through the bus/cycle lane though, especially on the tunnel just before Euston, I guess no cams fitted yet?

Yeah the 30 limit on the flyover is a pain, but the poor old thing is crumbling. In the autumn TfL plan to take it down to two lanes in each direction (and close it at night and weekends) to replace all the expansion joints before they fail catastrophically.

I remember when the flyover was the A40(M) and the limit was 60mph. That all changed about 20 years ago when TfL took it over. From 60 to 50 to 40 and now 30. It'll be 20 soon enough Rolling Eyes

When I reached the Euston underpass last week I went over the top. Filtered to the lights, hit a green and went straight through. So no worries about getting caught in the ridiculous cycle lane.

60? And was there an astronomic amount of accidents? Personally I think 50 is alright for the flyover, but the rest of the A40....definitely 60 except for the sections near traffic lights. Traffic is not an excuse, look at the M25 right, biggest fecking parking lot in the UK.

Yeah I wondered if it actually makes more sense to just go over rather than risk the cycle lane or squeeze between the cones.
