Looking at getting a new bike. Lots of the reviews say the 954 is one of the best blades ever made with a lower weight than anything since.

How do they hold up today?

What are pros and cons?

Pros:- IT'S A FIREBLADE

Do you like 4 cylinders.

Do you enjoy when cylinder 1 and 2 meet.

I used to have one, didn't really get on with it. Others on here praise them on high forever and ever amen, but I do not.

I found that while it was a competent bike, it was too hard, too bland and too unforgiving. People go on about how good a road bike they are, but for me it would have been better on track. It just lacked the fun factor. Sure it was exhilarating and it was very fast, but I never fell in love with it.

My Street Triple is ten times more fun, and is probably just as quick on the road.

Obviously it won't keep up with an S1000RR or similar, so I suppose nowadays a 954 is the 'forgiving' option, but without electronics and so on and certainly without a steering damper I'm not sure they give you much confidence. Since I owned it, I have ridden a couple of 2005 GSXR1000s and they seemed better to me. More confidence inspiring, like you could use the power. Assuming that's what the S1000RR is like, then it's a better bike.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.
