Just found a Windows service hogging a giant amount of resources on my laptop.

Turns out Windows 10 is set by default to send absolutely tons of 'diagnostic' data to Microsoft. Something about user experience improvement.

Example picture here:

The above is from a google image search. I have an SSD so my disk usage was fine but this one background 'service' was taking almost a Gb of RAM.

Definitely not a fan of this stealth process going on so I found out how to turn it off.

Info here: https://winaero.com/blog/how-to-disable-telemetry-and-data-collection-in-windows-10/

Condensed version:

Quote:
To disable Microsoft data harvesting:

Windows/Start button -> type "Powershell" -> right click -> Run As Administrator

Enter the following separately:

Get-Service DiagTrack | Set-Service -StartupType Disabled
Get-Service dmwappushservice | Set-Service -StartupType Disabled

Thought I'd share, for anyone who doesn't like sneaky background processes taking quarter of their computer's resources.

Not really, it's not running on mine at all.
If it does it must complete the task and close again promptly.

What you need reasons to ditch windows.
Once modding gets better on the consoles I may finally be able to give windows up for good.
