Still should've got a longer jail sentence imo. Especially after driving off and failing to report the accident.

A step in the right direction though. Thumbs Up

He denied his victim perhaps seventy more years of life, in return he suffers perhaps two and a bit years of minor inconvenience, hardly a fair exchange.

Thats on a par with running off after a crash into another car. Hitting a pedestrian, I think, would be higher and you have to have multiple deaths to get anywhere the to end sentance (which was 10 year but I think was raise in the last couple of years. It's still not a maximum of life, though)

Further charges of failing to stop and failing to report a road accident have been dropped.

Um, what??? Shocked

After reading the report, and not knowing any other details, this is still not long enough, at all.

I still wonder why taking a life (with aggravating factors, "poor emotional state" = pissed out of his gourd) doesn't result in a default life ban from driving.

It's not a right. How many more chances does he get to up his kill count?

Tend to agree. I dare say everyone has had a moment in their road using life where they've thought Allah that could have worked out nasty, but they tend to be a moment's lapse. Totting up the factors and offences here it's nothing like a moment's lapse, it's a choice to effectively not give a toss. Ban / prison isn't going to automatically change his mind the next time he feels a bit down and needs to ton up on his mobile.

That's all it takes though, I hadn't been driving that long when I nearly* went through this light (I have a BS excuse about the shade from the bridge Wink). Probably the most dangerous lapse I've had, and I learnt that day you should ignore your passengers rather than allow them to distract you.

*had I done and killed someone I'd have accepted whatever sentence I got

I agree that he should of been given a longer sentence.
Look on the bright side , he may get 'shanked' while he is in clink or with a bit of luck the wing ' daddy' will take shine to him. We can hope.

I wonder how many other people he's crashed into and then driven away.

IMO in many ways the not stopping is as bad as the death by dangerous driving.

Dangerous driving means driving like a bit of a dick and probably going too fast which loads of people do. Not stopping is a callous and selfish act, it's a calculated decision to not help the injured person(s) and leave them for dead.
