so today I passed my mod 2 bike test woo hoo, upon signing the certificate I read that you must have lived in the uk for 185 day prior to my test, I wasn't informed of this and didn't realise this was the case and now im really panicking!

I hold a full uk car licence, I have been ling in france for just over a year and do not speak enough French to do my test there, so as I was back in the uk for a few months I decided to do my test, now im thinking about sending the forms off to get the bike part put on my licence but am really panicking!

im not expecting any miracles just some friendly advice if possible, thanks.

How are they going to know? Well, aside from the fact that you're blabbing on the internets ...

My Guess (and it is only a guess) is that 185 days refers to you if you're not a british national or don't already hold any other british vehicle operators licence.
But I can't see how they'd know unless you tell them anyway...

Questions:

1. Are you a UK citizen?
2. How would DVSA know you'd been away for a year?

Internet suggests the rule is: You can only get a GB driving licence if you are normally resident in Great Britain. To be normally resident you must usually live in the United Kingdom for 185 days in each calendar year.

Suggests to me that if you're British born and bred then your year out is abnormal. Happy days.

Can you remember what the precise wording was?

You think they've time to check with every country in the world or is there just something special about france?

What's that got to do with DoT (or whatever they're called).
If you want a French address on your licence then they may go out of their way to check. But otherwise I'd be amazed of they have any info swap at all without special requests which they won't want to do.

Important
You can only get a GB driving licence if you are
normally resident in the United Kingdom.
To be normally resident you must usually live in the
United Kingdom for 185 days in each calendar year.
Applicants who are not UK citizens or nationals of
another EU or EEA country will not be considered
normally resident if they:
• do not have leave to remain in the UK, or
• are in the country on a temporary basis without
leave to remain either while awaiting a decision to
stay in the UK or following a decision refusing such
an application.

Taking a test
If you want to take a GB driving test
you must normally live in GB. If you
have moved to GB recently from
another EC/EEA country, you must
have lived in GB for 185 days in the
12 months before you can apply for
a driving test and a full licence.

Sauce: https://www.licencebureau.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/Driving-in-Britain-as-visitor-or-resident.pdf

(my emphasis)

You have not moved to the UK from another EU country. You are a UK national who has been visiting another EU country.

You meet the criteria for the licence and they let you take the test. I think you're in the clear.

I really doubt that the battery human chained to the desk at DVLA is going to check. If you have a NI number and a passport and an existing licence i'd guess they'll just rubber stamp it.

In fact I'd be surprised if they checked at all.

And breathe.

The DVLA couldn't find their arse with both hands, if they were nothing butt a giant arse, and both their hands were arses.

Unless you actually ticked a box saying "I is scamming you" or gave a French address, there will never be any issue with this.

I can't believe that people might actually answer 'yes' on any of those US questions. You'd have to be a basket case.

On the US form, I can kind-of see the logic in an arse-covering way. You can see some US lawyer defending a terrorist stating that nobody bothered to check on his way in.

I do wonder what Sinn Fein members used to tick when they went to the US for fund raising...
