It really is squirmy-toes stuff. I guess the Francies have gotten used to it as he greased his way up the political pole, but if he were really "non establishment", he'd have been eviscerated by the press rather than nudge-nudge, wink-wink lauded for it.

It seems like he got the Grey Vote while Mme Le Pen got the yoof, which seems a bit peculiar until you consider his granny-grabbing credentials.

Why did I read this as stabby or is it just the picture I have of millions of French with the smiles on their faces rapidly fading when they realise their picture of a future happy France was just an illusion and that they've just been knifed in the back? It won't bother our Bulgarian chum tho, as if France goes up the shitter, he'll just disappear off to somewhere else in the EU, unlike the poor French who call the place home. Plus ça change.
