Cobblers. The last part of it may be 40 year old copper cabling, the rest has been seriously upgraded.
I'm sorry, but this whole thing appears to be turned into some media led propaganda stunt to blame NHS under funding. This will affect all OS including Windows 10, across all industries and all countries, this was not a co-ordinated attack on the outdated NHS systems, no matter what the media would like you to believe.
This Ransomware will arrive most likely by email and rely on retard user to click on an attachment to activate it. The issue with this one is that once enabled, it could spread around the local network to other PC's using the SMB1.0 protocol which is only present on Windows 7 and older systems and only vulnerable if unpatched, which will be mainly XP boxes.
Pretendng the NHS is mainly running XP boxes is pure propaganda. The vast majority of PC's will be 7 or newer. Saying 9 out of 10 trusts still use XP is misleading and could just be a tiny handful, which aren't even network connected. I'll take the word of people actually in NHS IT over rumour and speculation any day. ____________________ TZR250 2MA road, TZR250 1KT road, TZR250 2MA race, TDR250, YZF-750R Boost colours.

I'm waiting for ill informed industry expert (idiot) Vallage to come on here and post the same shite he's telling everyone on Visordown.
Quote: | Long story short it is not a virus, no need to click something, does not use email for spreading. |
Anyone can catch this from an email attachments and lose their data, even with Windows 10 or older OS's which have been patched.
The SMB loophole only applies to secondary infections in network environments. Where as it would spread like wildfire in a network of unpatched or outdated XP boxes, to the everyday infection (at least amongst my customers) , it is far more likely it will arrive and trigger via email attachment on that PC only.
No doubt it will also have the ability to chew it's way through mapped drives too though, before the user knows what's going on. These things are often released later on a Friday for good reason. By Monday a customer of mine had lost everything up to M alphabetically on their mapped network drive.
No doubt the phone will start ringing shortly after 9AM with users who suddenly can't open files or are seeing ransomware pop ups telling them they're fecked. ____________________ TZR250 2MA road, TZR250 1KT road, TZR250 2MA race, TDR250, YZF-750R Boost colours.

I haven't seen anywhere that this affects home PCs is that right.
If so why not.
It wouldn't bother me I run of external HDD and have full backups
a few times including OS so two minutes and back up and fine.
Edit: As it happens I phoned my doctor to print out my file on Thursday
to have them sent to a doctor closer to where I live.

So panic, destroy all IT equipment.
Actually only (personally) seen one ransom type thingy; a woman I know had it happen, they also used her webcam to take a picture of her. I found it pretty funny |

For the first time ever I entirely agree with Microsoft.
The bigger issue though is the way organisations treat IT as a cost centre to be kept to a minimum and ignore the expert opinions of IT professionals. ____________________ They're coming to take me away, ho-ho, hee-hee, ha-haaa, hey-hey,

And don't forget the "Cyber Security Experts" Al Beeb were wheeling out. The ones who seemingly didn't understand that the virus needed to get into the network by infecting any PC, even Windows 10, most likely via email attachment, where it can encrypt all local and mapped drive data as well as distributing itself to unpatched Windows 7 and earlier PC's.
They left the impression this only affected XP machines in the NHS, even though it was clearly reported across at least 99 countries. ____________________ TZR250 2MA road, TZR250 1KT road, TZR250 2MA race, TDR250, YZF-750R Boost colours.
