Hi guys,

I've just moved to Norway permanently and sold my Ducati Monster 1100. As any road bike sits in the garage like an ornament most of the year here, I've decided to get my two wheel fix by purchasing a Yamaha YZF 250. There are plenty of trails in the forests here - some perhaps more for walking than riding, but that's part of the fun I suppose.

There are a few motocross tracks about as well. I doubt I'll be competing so to say, just want a toy to have fun on.

Anyway, I'm completely new to motocross riding and from what I've read the 2006+ YZF 250 is a good choice. I'm soon to be looking at a few here and wondered if anyone had any advice on what to look for and ask about.

A few people have said something about the valves every 100 hours or so? I'm really clueless on this front as I've just had road bikes before.

Any tips appreciated.

Thanks,
Antony

Got any 2 strokes over there, KTM/Honda wise?

Might be worth grabbing a 300 KTM or a 250 buzzy 2 stroke. More fun for sure.

Sorry this thread is a little too old. I ended up buying a 2006 YZ250F as it seems more reliable and easy to work on.

Good fun for the gravel roads around here, but takes some getting used to riding through walking tracks in the forest. Even so, does feel a little underpowered compared to the two strokes - though at least it doesn't sound like a chainsaw.

I think when I get my MX skills up, I'll see about getting a 450 or moving over to a 2 stroke. Plenty of options but pricey as hell here. Even the one I bought ended up costing around 1700.

I do miss my Ducati though - will never beat the sound of a large V twin with Termis without the baffles. Sad
