Hi, anyone any ideas? Sump is in the frame on a DRZ400. I opened the left engine case and pretty much all the oil dumped itself in the oil catch pan. Presume something's blocked but what and where? thanks! Smile Also, perhaps a dump question but could this in anyway effect a starter clutch (not working but grabbing when manually turned once removed and cleaned up, i.e. dry)?

Hi

Presume a dry sump engine. But I have zero specific knowledge of this engine.

It will take oil from the frame / tank for the main oil pump to supply the engine. There will be a scavenge pump of some kind (low pressure) so pump oil from the actual sump up to the frame / tank. There is likely also a one way valve in the system to stop oil draining from the tank back to the sump.

At a guess the one way / anti sumping valve is not doing its job.

All the best

Katy

Yeah I had seen it thanks, not had the time to get the cover off on that side, checking this afternoon so fingers crossed it's the plastic oil pump gear.
Assume its plastic for a reason, perhaps due to needing to bump start it a number of times due to a starter clutch prob it's shagged itself. Surprised
